A former tutoring centre in Scunthorpe will be turned into 14-bedroom ‘serviced accommodation’.
Planning approval has been granted to the conversion of 98-100 Oswald Road. It used to be the home of Kip McGrath Scunthorpe Tuition Centre.
This educational organisation moved in spring 2023 to its current home in Haldenby House, Berkeley Business Centre, off Doncaster Road. It provides tuition from ages 5-18 in the likes of Maths and English, and 11 Plus preparation.
D2 Property Group was the applicant seeking permission to convert. It will involve 14 self-contained apartments or bed spaces created out of the site’s semi-detached buildings. These were joined up for the tutoring use. Car park spaces will increase to 14.
It is “intended to serve a wide range of potential visitors including short stays for business, tourism or leisure purposes,” state Planning and Design Group (UK) Ltd on behalf of the applicant in a document. All rooms will have an en-suite, and some will have dining or seating areas. Larger rooms will have kitchenettes.
Staff would be expected on site daily, but not permanently. Booking systems and secure access technology would allow for remote check-ins.
A building and garage to the building’s rear will be removed to increase the parking spaces. It has been granted conditional approval. No-one will be allowed to stay for more than 28 consecutive nights, under the required conditions.
The parking and waste disposal must be sorted before the serviced accommodation becomes available to use, also.
