20 firms in Yorkshire and Humber secure King’s Awards for Enterprise

A total of 20 companies in the Yorkshire and Humber area have secured King’s Awards for Enterprise.

The recipients – part of a cohort of 252 award winners from around the UK – have been praised for excellence in innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Recipients include Warrendale Wagyu, which provides new and sustainable ways forward for the UK meat and dairy industry, and Carramore International Ltd, a supplier of customized services to medical and life science research in Lower and Middle Income countries, which has been recognised in the international trade category of the King’s Awards.

The winners in the international trade award were Restrap, Wrendale Designs, Ashley Bolser Agency, Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance, Zetechtics, Advanced Alloy Services, ICD Europe, Accu, SBD Apparel Limited, Ossila, Carramore, C-Kore Systems and Works International Design.

Innovation awards were won by Gripple, Advanced Manufacturing (Sheffield), Warrendale Wagyu, Safespaces (Cornholme) and Incremental Solutions. And there were sustainable development awards for Spinko/Harrison Spinks and The Bio D Company.

Jim Bloom, founder of Warrendale Wagyu, near Holmfirth, said: “Receiving the Kings Award is an honour for Warrendale Wagyu after founding the business seven years ago. We work closely with many farmers across the UK to produce British Wagyu Beef and are also very fortunate to have established some long term customers who value the product and supply chain we have created.”

Alasdair Grant, managing director of Carramore International said: “Carramore International Ltd: won the Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2019 and is very pleased and honoured to now have been recognised in the International Trade category of the King’s Awards for 2024.”

Advanced Manufacturing Sheffield co-founder and managing director Dr Gareth Morgan said: “The King’s Award for Enterprise Innovation tells us and our customers that AML sets a high bar and then leaps over it.”

Ed Stubbs, managing director at employee-owned Gripple said: “Gripple is all about doing more. That means empowering our people to push boundaries and deliver better solutions for the markets we service.”

Works International founder and chairman Roy Webber said: “We are absolutely delighted. We have a team of incredibly talented people who consistently deliver world-class branding and design services for some of the world’s greatest sporting competitions and events. To get recognition for this work is a great honour.”

Stephen Hall, managing director at Advanced Alloy Services, said: “We are proud to support the drive towards net zero by effectively recycling and recovering secondary revert, reducing the requirements for primary metals and the associated high carbon emissions from mining and refining. We have ambitious plans to grow our international footprint and global sales, the accolade from the King’s Award will be instrumental in helping realise these aspirations.”

Simon Spinks, chairman of Harrison Spinks, said: “Receiving the King’s Award for Sustainable Development is a tremendous honour, especially after previously holding a Queen’s Award in this category, and it reflects the unwavering dedication of our whole team’s efforts to be the UK’s most responsible bedmaker.”

Lloyd Atkin, managing director at Bio-D, said: “We are both honoured and delighted to receive such a prestigious award. Having spent 35 years dedicating ourselves to sustainability and reducing the impact of our products and operations on our precious and fragile environment, it is wonderful to be recognised for our efforts.”

Alastair Morris, UK managing director at Accu, said: “Receiving the King’s Award for International Trade is a huge honour. It’s a reflection of all the hard work and dedication of everybody at Accu. Ashley Bolser, founder and MD of Bolser, said: “We’re incredibly honoured. Winning a King’s Award is not just about our outstanding international growth, but what fuelled it. ICD MD Wayne Hawkes said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise. This recognition, following our Queen’s Award just three years ago, is a remarkable testament to our team’s dedication and hard work in driving international trade. It solidifies our commitment to expanding our global reach and impact, and we are truly honoured to receive this double distinction.”

The King’s Awards for Enterprise were previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and were renamed last year to reflect the King’s desire to continue the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The programme, now in its 58th year, has recognised over 7,000 companies since its inception in 1965.
