Village high street shut for three weeks for sewage works

Gas and sewage works are the reasons for ongoing road closures in Barrow upon Humber and Scunthorpe.

Barrow Upon Humber’s High Street has been shut off since last week and is expected to remain closed until November 1. Works have also begun at a key road section in Ashby part of Scunthorpe borough. This involves the closure of part of Burringham Road, which is set to be completed by November 3.

The works are both utility related. In Barrow, Anglian Water has been carrying out works in various parts of the village since August 27. Meanwhile, the Ashby works are gas-related.

Until November 1, High Street and The Island are in closed in Barrow. Anglian Water states on its online portal detailing repairs that properties impacted are being delivered letters in each phase of the works.

Anglian Water is working on its sewer network in the village. Sewer pipes are being reinforced to prevent groundwater entry, in turn impacting sewage stations. It is using a special technique to minimise the amount of road dug up.

A piece of special lining material coated in a resin is being passed down and guided into place by use of a CCTV camera. Once in place, the liner is heated up so the resin becomes sticky, and then is pressed onto both sides of the sewer pipe. During the works in the village, a number of manhole covers are being repaired or raised to do the work, too.

During the High Street closure, the 250 Hull to Grimsby bus service, and 260, 553 and 560 services are diverting via Ferry Road East in both directions. The Market Place and Ferry Road stops are not being served. Instead, customers should catch the bus from outside the primary on Ferry Road East.

In Ashby, Burringham Road is closed at a short, key section. The road is closed for major gas works by Cadent Gas between Messingham Road and Ashby Turn. Traffic is being diverted via Grange Lane South from Ashby Turn, and Messingham Road, from Burringham Road.

Separate Cadent Gas works in Bottesford, requiring temporary traffic lights at Manor Road, are due to finish by the end of October.
