Local performer brings first-of-its-kind show to Grimsby in bid to ‘bring city vibes’ to the town

A one-of-a-kind show is coming to Grimsby next month to culminate the town’s first ever course which has taught participants all things cabaret and burlesque.

Unseen Cabaret will take place at The Loft above The Matrix in Grimsby town centre from 7pm on Saturday, November 23. Produced by Lynsey Wells, who runs holistic art space Unseen Arts on Grimsby Docks, the showcase concludes a 12-week course and will see many participants making their stage debut.

Lynsey, whose stage name is Lady La Belle, decided to run the course in a bid to nurture Grimsby’s emerging cabaret talent. The seasoned performer has joined forces with Zoe Charles, from London’s longest-running burlesque school, The Cheek of It, to teach people the skills to craft their own solo acts.

The event, which has been funded by North East Lincolnshire Council, will feature eight acts, including London’s renowned drag artist PMBC and international burlesque sensation, Lady Wildflower, as the special guest act.

Lynsey said: “I’m thrilled to bring the vibrancy of cabaret back to Grimsby. There’s so much talent here that deserves to be nurtured. I want to build a local cabaret scene, created by our own artists as well as including outside talent.

“Burlesque is both empowering and artistic. It’s time to bring city vibes to Grimsby with locally-produced talent. We have lots of neo burlesque acts, classic burlesque, circus arts – there is so much variety, it really isn’t to be missed.”

She now plans to offer more shows, courses and workshops in 2025, with the ultimate aim of creating a lasting platform for performers in Grimsby.

Lynsey co-founded Unseen Arts on Grimsby Docks with Natasha Morley, and offers classes in pole, aerial skills, burlesque, life drawing and more.

The show will include eight acts in cabaret and burlesque

Speaking previously to Grimsby Live, Natasha said: “There’s so many amazing creative artists and performers here, but the facilities weren’t there for us and we wanted to be the change and create the space for people.

“The classes are available for complete beginners. We want to cater to all skill levels and we want people to be able to start off their journey with us and continue their development with us. We welcome all body types, genders and skill levels. We’re a very safe and inclusive space, this is for everybody.”
