Docksfest 2025 – first acts announced after hugely successful debut year

Following a hugely successful debut year – Docksfest will return in 2025, and its first round of acts have already been announced.

Last year, the debut Docksfest had over 4000 people attend. The festival was also nominated for “Best New Festival” and the “Best Small Festival” in the UK Festival Awards 2024. This year, organisers are hoping to build upon their almost instant success and deliver a better festival.

Hosted by Grimsby-born comedian Lloyd Griffith, the 2025 Docksfest will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the Meridian Showground – in partnership with Dirty Docks Ltd, Docks Beers and Docks Academy. Six bands have already signed up, with the headline act and more yet to be confirmed.

Ash, Maximo Park, Corella, Coach Party, EVER and Grimsby’s own Last of the Wonder Kids are already signed up for next yea’rs event. Last year, headline acts included the likes of Razorlight, Frank Turner and Lottery Winners.

Will Douglas, festival founder and Director of Dirty Docks, Docks Beers and Docks Academy, said: “Building on the incredible energy of this year’s festival, we’re thrilled to bring DocksFest back in 2025 for its second edition. DocksFest 24 was so well supported. “

“People came from all over the UK to enjoy the amazing atmosphere and outstanding live music performances. It showed beyond doubt that North East Lincolnshire deserves its own major live music festival. We’re doubling down with an artist line up for 2025 which will make next year an unforgettable destination event.”

Organisers say that The second Docksfest promises to be a celebration of music, street food and locally brewed beer.

Chris Gadd, festival founder and Director of Dirty Docks and Director of Stage & Light, the Stallingborough based company responsible for the festival’s staging, light and sound, added: “We’re really looking forward to announcing our headliner. As well as chart topping acts, we will shine a light on the local music scene with the talents of Grimsby bands EVER and Last Of The Wonder Kids on the main stage, plus we will have acoustic performances from other local musicians on the VIP Tent Acoustic Stage. These local artist names will be confirmed early in 2025.”

Nikita Hand wins civil rape case against MMA fighter Conor McGregor

A woman who accused Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor of raping her in a Dublin hotel has won her claim against him for damages in a High Court civil case. The jury in the civil case against Mr McGregor delivered its verdict on Friday afternoon. The total amount of damages awarded to Ms Hand by the jury was 248,603.60 euro. Mr McGregor had faced an accusation that he “brutally raped and battered” Nikita Hand at a hotel in south Dublin in December 2018. The Irish sports star previously told the court he had consensual sex with Ms Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel. Ms Hand, who is also known as Nikita Ni Laimhin, lost her case against another man, James Lawrence, who she accused of assaulting her by allegedly having sex without her consent at the same hotel. Following eight days of evidence and three days listening to closing speeches and the judge’s charge, the jury of eight women and four men spent six hours and 10 minutes deliberating before returning with its verdict. Mr McGregor shook his head after the jury read out that Ms Hand had won her case against him. Mr McGregor was accompanied by his family, including his partner Dee Devlin, parents, sister and brother-in-law. He sat in the back row of the court, between his partner and mother, Margaret. Ms Hand, 35, cried and was hugged by her partner and supporters. A number of police were in the courtroom as the verdict was delivered. The case, which opened on November 5, had previously heard that on the day of the attack, Ms Hand and her work colleague Danielle Kealy went to the penthouse suite with Mr McGregor and Mr Lawrence after their work Christmas party. They had given evidence of how they had been partying all night from December 8 and into the morning of December 9, and had been heavily drinking and taking cocaine. Ms Hand, a mother-of-one, told the court how Mr McGregor had pinned her to the bed in the hotel bedroom before assaulting her. During her evidence to the court, Ms Hand said she thought she would never see her young daughter again when the MMA star was “choking” her. The court heard that as she was being attacked, she “froze and couldn’t move or breathe”. She said she had held up both hands and had tried to get away from him, but said the more she struggled, the more he appeared to like it. “The only thing I could move was my head. I bit him but I can’t remember where. He didn’t like it, so he flipped me around and put his arm around my neck and choked me,” she said. Ms Hand, a mother-of-one, was left with extensive bruises and abrasions over her body, including purple and blue bruising along her hands and wrists, a bloodied scratch on her breast and tenderness on her neck after she said she was placed in a “chokehold” by Mr McGregor. Mr McGregor denied he caused the bruising across her body, saying they could have been caused when she “swan dived” into the bath in the hotel room. The court heard how Ms Hand suffered serious physical and psychological injuries as a result of the attack by Mr McGregor and that she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Ms Hand was taken in an ambulance to the Rotunda Hospital the following day where she was assessed in the sexual assault treatment unit (SATU). A paramedic, who examined Ms Hand the day after the assault, had told the court she had not seen “someone so bruised” in a long time. Ms Hand had also been worried about a tampon she had been wearing on the night she was assaulted. Dr Daniel Kane, who works as a gynaecologist as well as a forensic examiner in sexual assault cases, explained how he had to use forceps to remove the tampon which had been “wedged inside”. Ms Hand broke down several times as she gave evidence for almost three days and sought a number of breaks. The jury had been told how Ms Hand had to leave her job as a hairdresser and has not been able to work since due to her mental health, that her relationship with her partner ended months after the incident, she had to move out of her home in Drimnagh, and her mortgage is now in arrears. She also said she had to stop seeing a counsellor because she could no longer afford to pay for the sessions. Gatwick airport terminal to reopen after security alert

Gatwick’s south terminal is reopening after a security alert was cleared by police, the airport said. The building was closed to new passengers for more than four hours on Friday as Sussex Police deployed its bomb disposal unit because of “the discovery of a suspected prohibited item in luggage”. The force said it was called to what is the UK’s second busiest airport at 8.20am. Passengers who had not cleared security were required to evacuate at around 10.30am. The airport released a statement at 2.44pm which said: “The earlier security alert has now been resolved and cleared by police. “The south terminal is reopening to staff and will be open to passengers shortly.” It added: “There are some delays and cancellations. Passengers should contact their airline for any updates on flights.” Sussex Police said in a statement that an explosive ordnance disposal team was deployed to the airport “as a precaution” and a security cordon was put in place. Around 100,000 passengers were set to travel through the airport on Friday. A number of flights to and from the south terminal were cancelled, including at least 16 departures and 13 arrivals by British Airways. Other flights continued to depart, but were only carrying passengers who had passed through security before the evacuation. A British Airways flight to Orlando in the US departed one hour and 49 minutes late. Spanish carrier Vueling ordered an inbound flight from Barcelona and one from Seville to turn around and return to their starting airports. A Norwegian flight to Bergen departed two hours and seven minutes late. The north terminal was unaffected. Nejadeen Braham, 35, who works as a nurse on the Isle of Man, was due to fly to her homeland of Jamaica to collect her children. Speaking to the PA news agency outside the south terminal, she said: “I couldn’t get in the airport. I saw everybody coming (out) from one direction. “I was supposed to go inside, drop my bags and go through security. “When I got here I saw everybody coming down. “There were no proper updates. “I m very frustrated.” British Airways said in a statement it was “in contact with affected customers and giving them updates as and when we can”. It went on: “We’re also providing them with options including flight re-bookings and hotel accommodation where necessary. “We ask customers to check ba.com for the latest flight information before coming to the airport.” Train services at Gatwick were suspended as the railway station is attached to the south terminal, but are set to resume. Aviation analytics website Cirium said 316 flights were scheduled to depart from the airport on Friday, with a total of more than 60,600 seats. A further 318 flights were scheduled to arrive, with more than 61,400 seats. As of now, only 70% of flights had departed within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
