Sometimes there’s nothing better than an Indian takeaway and a relaxing night in front of the TV.
Curries with a spicy kick, mopped up by a fluffy and moreish piece of garlic naan, and the range of flavours and textures in the iconic “pickle tray” are just some of my favourite elements that you can only get in an Indian takeaway.
Luckily, there’s plenty of choice locally when it comes to incredible Indian food – and I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy the selections at New Waltham Tandoori a few times in the past.
But it had been a good few years since we ordered from there – so when a craving that only a creamy pasanda could satisfy – we logged on to Just Eat and made our selections one evening last week.
We went for one of the Set Meals – Set Meal C – for two people, which was priced at £34.95. This features two poppadoms, a pickle tray, any two starters, any two main dishes, any two rice dishes, one side dish and one naan bread.
We went for an Onion Bhaji and Paneer Tikka for the starters, Chicken Pasanda and Chicken Rogan Josh for the mains, boiled rice and pilau rice, Cauliflower Bhaji as the side dish and a Garlic Peshwari Naan.

The food was supposed to come within an hour-and-a-half or so but it arrived much quicker than that, and after plating up the different dishes, we dug in.
I honestly don’t think I can fault anything we got. The pasanda was the perfect creamy consistency without being too thick, and was packed full of a delicious, rich, almond flavour. Sometimes I’ve found that a pasanda can be a little too sweet, but this one wasn’t at all.
I’d never tried a Cauliflower Bhaji so I didn’t know what to expect here, but it wasn’t served in fried batter like an Onion Bhaji – instead it came in a thick sauce with a tangy kick, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
As for the Paneer, this was probably my favourite starter. I’d only tried Paneer – a type of cheese that’s common in South Asian cuisine – for the first time a couple of years ago and loved it, so I do tend to go for this now when I’m ordering an Indian takeaway. It was perfectly seasoned with tikka sauce and packed a delicious punch.
The portion sizes were so big that we were eating the rest of it for lunch and tea again the next day. Indian takeaways are on the expensive side, but you can get a bit more value for your money if you make them last!
I’ve always been impressed with the food from New Waltham Tandoori and think it’s one of the best places to eat Indian food in the area.
