The Secretary of State is in receipt of the Planning Inspectorate’s recommendation on the £1 billion North Lincolnshire Green Energy Park.
The huge proposal from under-pressure Irish firm Solar 21, features a 95MW energy from waste plant, with battery storage and carbon capture; hydrogen production and heat and steam supply to neighbouring industry as well as a district heat network and carbon capture and storage.
There are also plans for on-site manufacturing for the construction industry to take advantage of waste streams. In order to service it, an extension to Flixborough Wharf is proposed on the River Trent, as well as the re-opening of a 9km single track railway connecting it with the steelworks, with a rail head complex and new road alignment to link with the existing network, west of Scunthorpe.

The Secretary of State has until November 15 to decide on whether to approve or not, with the recommendation not disclosed until a decision is made.
It recently took on further significance for the Dublin-headquartered business, after it revealed it has pulled out of an East Yorkshire project, leaving investors facing potential losses.
The collapse of a technology partner for plans at Melton have led the firm to rely on a successful outcome to ensure returns on outlays, an arrangement convened by a High Court judge.
A total of 250 jobs have been eyed, with many more in construction. The plans were initially accepted in June last year, having first been unveiled in 2020.
