Scunthorpe United to continue playing at Glanford Park as negotiations continue

Scunthorpe United will play their next two home games at Glanford Park whilst negotiations over the ground continue.

The club announced they may have to vacate the site after their last home fixture against Brackley Town; however, they will now play at least the next two home games at the stadium. Glanford Park is still owned by former owner Peter Swann, but as a good will gesture he has allowed the team to continue playing there.

The Iron will welcome Spennymoor Town and Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday, 24 October, and Saturday, 28 October, respectively. Tickets have now gone on sale for the games following the agreement.

Negotiations are still underway with new owner Michelle Harness and Swann as she looks to acquire the stadium in the coming weeks. Under previous owner David Hilton, it was thought Scunthorpe may have to play the remainder of their home games at Gainsborough Trinity.

However, Trinity were not aware of this arrangement, sparking confusion amongst supporters. In a recent statement, the club said: “Scunthorpe United can confirm that the Iron’s next two home games against Spennymoor Town and Bishop’s Stortford will go ahead as planned at Glanford Park.

“With negotiations over the purchase of the ground still progressing, former owner of the club, Peter Swann, has granted an extension on our tenancy at the stadium to cover the upcoming back-to-back encounters in a goodwill gesture, while we look to conclude the acquisition of the asset in the coming weeks.

“United welcome the Moors to Glanford Park on Tuesday, October 24th (7.45pm kick-off) before the Blues are in town four days later on Saturday, October 28th (3pm kick-off).

“Tickets have now returned to sale online via www.sufctickets.com for the games, while our ticket office reopens at 10am on Thursday for supporters to purchase those in person. We would like to thank Peter for his cooperation in negotiations so far, and for allowing us to proceed with our next two home league games.”
