Grimsby Town have parted ways with manager Paul Hurst and assistant manager Chris Doig.
The club confirmed the pair had left their roles with the club following this afternoon’s defeat at Doncaster Rovers. The Mariners went into the game without a win since October 3 and the loss has left the club teetering above the League Two relegation places after a torrid month which has seen them pick up just four points in six league matches.
In a statement published on Grimsby Town’s website, chairman Jason Stockwood said: “It is with sadness and disappointment that we’ve reached this point. Since May 2021, we’ve had a positive relationship with Paul and Chris.
“We’re proud of our achievements under their leadership: our promotion from the National League, the historic FA Cup run, and attaining our highest league position in 17 years. However, it’s time to embark on the next phase of the club’s development.
“We’re grateful for their hard work and wish them future success. They are an indelible part of our history and will always be welcome at Blundell Park.”
The Mariners travel to face National League South side Slough Town in the first round of the FA Cup next weekend, and Stockwood said that the club have prepared a plan “for the next few weeks” while not yet having a managerial replacement singled out.
He added: “I think it would’ve been disrespectful to Paul and Chris to have somebody else already lined up for the job and we came [to Doncaster] hoping to get a result and kick on next week against Slough in the FA Cup.
“We’ve been working in the background to think about how we approach the next few weeks, so we’ve got a very clear plan. This is the next chapter for Grimsby Town that we’ve got to think about so making the right decision was important.”
