Hull’s high growth tech firm Connexin has been recognised as a Great Place To Work, capping a huge period of expansion.
The broadband network and smart city specialist, already named as one of the soaring businesses in its sector nationally, is delighted with the independent verification – underlining no growing pains after a remarkable 18 months. Three acquisitions and strong organic development have seen a 50 per cent increase in staff, while the company also moved across the city to a new headquarters.
The survey-based data saw employees answer questions honestly and anonymously, with an organisation that has now quizzed 10 million employees worldwide on integrity, engagement and communication, camaraderie, and pride.

Chief executive, Furqan Alamgir, said: “Growing at the pace we have, it is so easy for companies to normalise and accept work frustrations as growth pain, but we are the unique company that has achieved the growth without the pain.
“We pride ourselves on having cultural principles across all areas of the business, both internally and externally with a big focus on giving back to local communities. Most recently we have implemented a range of initiatives including competitions with local schools and raising funds for local charities through the ‘Connexin Cares’ scheme.
“Every team member has a vital part to play at Connexin, and I am immensely proud of our people for keeping the same great culture as we did when we only had only 10 employees not so long ago.”
Significant third party investment has enabled accelerated growth for the company, which has put its name to Hull Arena – Connexion Live – too. Connexin is also the headline sponsor for this month’s Hull Live Business Awards.
The work has been spearheaded by Tracy Hemming-Tayler, vice president of people and culture. She said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the official certification as a Great Place to Work! This accomplishment reflects our tireless dedication and commitment to creating a workplace that stands out. This culture is rapidly becoming our not-so-secret reason for attracting high calibre candidates near and far.”
Connexin was founded in 2006 and named the 16th fastest growing technology company at the Northern Tech Awards in April 2023. It has added Encompass Training, Pure Broadband and Wisper to the ranks recently.
Mr Furquan said it wants to ‘continue pushing boundaries of ISP tech and continue to keep people at the heart of their culture and products’.
