Grimsby stall has people queuing for its famous hot meat buns after Freshney Place move

A longstanding Grimsby establishment famous for its iconic hot meat buns has been serving hungry customers in queues out the door since officially moving into Freshney Place.

Hot Bun on the Run, which was situated at the entrance of Grimsby Top Town Market for more than two decades, has this week moved into its new premises in Clayton Walk within the shopping centre.

The move comes ahead of the demolition of the market to make way for the new indoor market inside the former BHS store, as well as the new cinema and leisure complex, which have all been earmarked for completion by September 2025.

At the new Hot Bun on the Run, shoppers can look forward to the famous hot meat buns – which include turkey, pork, gammon and beef – the sweet treat offerings from Scartho’s Swales store and the all-new Yorkshire pudding wraps, which are set to launch from next week onwards.

Joy Fields has worked for the business for more than 20 years, and said the shop has been busier than ever since the relocation into the main shopping centre.

“It’s been really busy since we reopened. We were busy before, but we seem to have got even busier since we’ve moved location,” she said.

“We’ve been on the market for years and we had to close for three weeks before we moved here. It’s odd and a big change for us, it’s a bit smaller than what we’re used to, but the set-up is still the same.

“A lot of people know us anyway because they’ve been coming to us for a really long time, so we know some faces and we know what they have, and sometimes they can be funny and change their order and we start having a laugh and joke about it. We do like a bit of banter between the regulars who come for the hot buns.

“We have good banter with most of our customers. We’re a bit of a Grimsby establishment and we’re proud of that.”

Speaking about the shop’s reasonable price offerings amid the cost of living crisis, Joy said: “We’ve got to keep our prices reasonable because there’s plenty of competition out there, so we’ve got to be competitive with other places.
