Families from northern Lincolnshire could stand to inherit a fortune from relatives whose estates have gone unclaimed.
People in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and other communities around the region have left estates, which have yet to be claimed, after they died without making a will. There are more than 6,000 unclaimed estates around the country, including dozens in our region.
However, the clock is ticking to claim the assets, because if no one comes forward before a 30-year limit, then they will pass into the Government’s coffers. The latest list of unclaimed estates, for December 2023, has now been released.

When a person dies without making a will, in most cases their estate will pass to their next of kin. But this is not always a simple process, especially if no surviving relative comes forward or can be found.
This is more common than might be imagined, as around 60 per cent of adults do not have a will, according to the Humber law firm Hamers. In these cases, spouses, civil partners and close relatives may be able to collect the estate, though they may sometimes have to provide evidence of their relationship.
Here is the list of family names of people whose estates are unclaimed, as of December 11 2023. If you think that you might have a claim, visit the Gov.UK website for more information.
