Emma Buttrick, Programme Tutor in Health and Social Care, has been raising money for the local community for six years, raising over £8,000 to raise awareness of dementia and to support local people.
She said: “After losing Dad, to bring joy to others is the reason I continue to raise funds. The money raised today will support two local care homes with some animal therapy and purchasing Christmas presents, as well as donating some fiddle pillows, blankets, and a knitted Santa.”
The Foundation team also raised more than £310 from making and selling Christmas gifts, which in turn allowed them to purchase toys, gift sets and electrical goods that were then gifted to The Blue Door.
The specialist service provides support to anyone who has experienced domestic abuse and sexual violence in North and North East Lincolnshire and those who have experienced rape and serious sexual offences in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire through a variety of advocacy, outreach workers, groups and programmes.
Hannah Smith, Education, Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence Adviser from The Blue Door collected the haul of goodies that was donated. He said: “This means that we can open our doors to our vulnerable families to help make their Christmas a little easier.”
North Lindsey College also encouraged students, staff, and external stakeholders to donate goods to a Christmas Care Package scheme which saw hundreds of students in need across DN College’s multiple sites receive a bag of festive goodies.
Hygiene products, stocking-filler style gifts and other festive goodies were requested to make up the care packages, and students could be nominated to anonymously receive one through a confidential online form.
Local business, HL Engineering Contractors, made a sizable donation of goods to the cause which was able to be split between North Lindsey College, University Campus North Lincolnshire, and Doncaster College due to the volume of the donation.
