New Scunthorpe town centre supermarket store planned

Scunthorpe is to get a new supermarket in the town centre.

A licensing application was submitted to North Lincolnshire Council earlier this month for a new Heron Foods Limited store. The discount supermarket chain already has one Scunthorpe store, but in Willoughby Road.

The proposed new store at Units 21-22 in Parade Shopping Centre, Jubilee Way, will be minutes away from the High Street, and the town bus station. The units have been empty for a number of years.

The licence application is for the sale of alcohol and opening hours of 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm, Sundays. Heron’s Willoughby Road store opened four years ago.

It was the site of The Pied Piper pub, which closed in March 2020 having served customers for more than fifty years. There were 15 full and part-time jobs created by that Heron Food store’s opening. The specific Parade Shopping Centre units have been empty for a number of years.

Heron Foods is owned by B&M. In its interim results announcement in 2023, it said it was still on track to have 20 new Heron Foods stores by the end of the financial year, April 2024.

The job of store manager at the new store, with a salary of a little over £28,000, is already being advertised on LinkedIn. Heron Foods have been contacted for opportunity for comment.
