Two men charged after sheep stolen, killed and dumped in alleyway

Two men from Scunthorpe have been charged after a sheep was stolen and killed with its remains discarded in an alleyway.

In April 2022, Humberside Police launched an investigation after the remains of a sheep were discovered in Scunthorpe. In November last year, the force appealed to the public for information on the identity of three men.

Elvis Anghel, 21, of Church Lane in Scunthorpe, has now been charged with theft, two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, and duty of person responsible for animal to ensure welfare.

Bogdan Gruia, 33, of Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe, was charged with handling stolen goods, and aiding and abetting the causing of unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Both men are due to attend Grimsby Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 31.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A 21-year-old man and 33-year-old man are expected in court next week following reports of the theft and unlawful killing of a sheep in North Lincolnshire in April 2022.

“Bogdan Gruia, aged 33, of Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe, was charged with handling stolen goods, and aiding and abetting the causing of unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

“An investigation was launched after the remains of a sheep were found in an alleyway in Scunthorpe on Wednesday 27th April 2022.

“Both men are due to attend Grimsby Magistrates Court on Wednesday 31 January 2024.”
