Dozens of doctors and nurses are set to move into brand-new accommodation in the heart of Scunthorpe town centre.
The scheme is part of the enterprise and innovation hub, also known as Project Anchor, at the former Scunthorpe Market site, largely funded by the government’s Future High Streets Fund. As well as offices, a café and bar, the project includes 46-unit accommodation on its eastern wing.
The last brick for this was laid in the autumn and it is now ready to be moved into by NHS doctors and nurses. It has been named Elizabeth Row, in tribute to the late monarch.

Towns Fund Board members Cllr Rob Waltham and Scunthorpe MP, Holly Mumby-Croft, were the first on site to see the accommodation. “I’m delighted that we have been able to deliver these impressive facilities that will be a huge benefit to the doctors and nurses that keep us safe and well at Scunthorpe Hospital,” said Cllr Waltham, North Lincolnshire Council leader.
Ms Mumby-Croft said: “The government is backing our ambitious regeneration plans for Scunthorpe with millions of pounds of investment – Elizabeth Row is just the latest bricks and mortar example that will be a huge boost to key workers and businesses.
“It’s absolutely right that those doctors and nurses who work tirelessly to keep local people well have access to really good quality, centrally located accommodation and that’s exactly what they will have here.” Future High Streets Fund cash, £10.7m of it, has mostly funded the enterprise and innovation hub.
In late 2022, the cost of the enterprise and innovation hub scheme had risen to £13.9m, up from £12m. North Lincolnshire Council footed this extra cost. Galliford Try are the construction company that have carried out the work. A meeting of the Scunthorpe Towns Fund Board last July was told the expected completion date of the hub in full would be June 21.
A new police station is proposed on the western end of the Project Anchor site. A Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner decision record in February put this at a £13.8m cost, part supported by £4m government Towns Fund cash. A planning application for the police station, which has room for a gym but will not have a holding cell, remains pending consideration.
Neighbouring Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens was also named after the late Queen. It is set to host more family-friendly events this year, including Play! on June 1.
