A brand new coffee shop with a “magical vibe” all of its own will soon open in Grimsby town centre.
Set within the historic Regent Shopping Arcade on Bethlehem Street, The Mean Bean will open to the public on Monday, July 29, bringing a cosy café where customers can enjoy a comforting cup of coffee and slice of cake, surrounded by “magical and whimsical” displays with works by talented local crafters.
Inspired by her dreams of opening a coffee shop and her love of crafting, Jolene Wilson said she “took the leap and jumped in feet first” when the opportunity became available to set up shop.

Speaking to Grimsby Live, Jolene said: “It’s something I’ve spoken about for years as a dream, that one of these days I’d open a shop with coffee and a book nook. I took the leap and jumped in feet first.
“We’re a fusion business, so we’re offering shelf space for crafters to sell their homemade items. That was my original idea. But then I sat and thought about what would bring people in – tea, coffee and of course, cake. We want to offer a relaxing place to enjoy a drink and cake, while also stocking some amazingly talented crafters’ work.
“I’m a huge geek and have a love for crafts, gaming and books. So obviously it had to be a fantasy theme.
“Imagine walking into a cosy tavern slash shop with a magical vibe. You walk in and everywhere you look there are curiosities, and every little corner is filled with magical, whimsical displays.
“I have decorated with lanterns, vines and flowers and have made it all about the ambience, which will hopefully help customers lose themselves and relax.”
The Mean Bean will open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. To keep up-to-date with developments and announcements, you can like The Mean Bean on Facebook by clicking here.
