Cleethorpes Comic Con goes back in time and to the future

Around a thousand visitors joined time travellers and superheroes at a spectacular Comic Con event in Cleethorpes.

The start of the two-day event at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre on Saturday was packed with cos play fans and characters of good and evil. Organisers were delighted there wasn’t much room for superheroes to battle baddies.

But there was a Mushroom, who joined a Mad Hatter and menacing megalomaniac Davros from Dr Who, brilliantly performed by actor David Gooderson. He had a Dalek in tow to scare visitors.

Amanda Marriott, of Luxx Events said: “It is going bigger and better than ever. We have had a steady flow throughout the day and overwhelmed by the many people who have come to enjoy the event.

“After the years of Covid, it is good to be back to it and nice to see so many people out enjoying themselves. David Gooderson has been popular. People seem to like a baddie. He is such a lovely bloke and nothing like his character.

“Davros is truly the Mr Bad Number One and he has brought a Dalek. But we also have a Tardis so everyone is safe. We also have a DeLorean parked outside so people can go Back to the Future.”

Amanda added: “Cleethorpes is our home town and we are so super excited we can bring the event to people here. it is such a good event and great to see people enjoying themselves in a happy and vibrant venue.”

Johnny Five roamed the large room hosting the event and avoided any short circuits., while a giant Teddy Bear and a Fox became a big attraction for children.

Paul Baker and Michaela Taylor came as Green Lantern characters on Saturday. Michaela said: “We have really enjoyed it with it being on the beach too. We are living life to the max. We came last year and this is perfect for a weekend away by the beach. She said she will be returning today (Sunday) as Lilly Herman from US TV show The Munsters. The doors for the event are open from 10am to 4pm.
