Cleethorpes buzzing with bonanza of sun, school holidays and festival stalls rammed with food

Businesses are celebrating one of the best weekends in Cleethorpes thanks to sun, superheroes and salsas.

The Great Grub Festival and Comic Con 2024 have swelled the number of visitors to the resort which was described as “buzzing” and “rammed.” Holiday camps in Cleethorpes are full to capacity and guesthouses fully booked.

Many of the stalls for the Great Grub Fest were having to restock due to the demand at around 40 pop up street food stalls. Resort manager for Cleethorpes, Scott Snowden told Grimsby Live: “It is absolutely wonderful. We have the best scenery and places for people to walk. The Comic Con and Great Grub Festival have been massive attractions and the sense of community is fantastic.

“Cleethorpes is buzzing. It is packed with families and kids and people walking their dogs. It is wonderful to see everyone with a smile on their face.”

The popular manager said: “The team here at Beach Safety and all the excellent partners at RNLI and Coastguard have pulled together to keep everyone safe on the beach. There are lots of people with sun tents. Can you believe that? And lots of people are supporting local businesses buying ice-cream.”

Beach safety officers, with their intimate knowledge of the shoreline are ensuring everyone is kept safe and can provide First Aid to anyone who requires urgent attention. The Team are also on hand to reunite missing children with families and missing adults, thanks to the CCTV control network.

A packed Prom in Cleethorpes this weekend

Nathan Taylor of Cleethorpes Kitchen and Taphouse said: “The glorious weather is very much welcome after the past few weeks. It impacts massively on footfall as people are more likely to come out in the sunshine. The holiday centres, like Haven are full to capacity this weekend and shows that Cleethorpes is a wonderful place to come for a holiday.”

He said he would have liked to have received permission to develop the former Jungle Zoo site into a family attraction with rock climbing wall, archery and family fun facilities. But he was rejected by North East Lincolnshire Council which owns the site.

“We should be looking around the UK to see what other places have which attract more people. Cleethorpes needs more family leisure attractions, such as a trampoline park,” said Nathan.

Newly-elected ward councillor for Croft Baker ward, Marian Jervis said: “It makes Cleethorpes come alive when there are these events. I can’t tell you how proud I am of the people in Cleethorpes.

“There is very much a community in the ward. Both the residents and businesses work together. It is a big community and they want to work together. They are a superb bunch of people and involve Malcolm (fellow Labour councillor) and me in all that they do.” She added: “our mission now is to get The Blue Flag back for Cleethorpes and end the discharge of sewage into the river.”
