A thief who stole a tortoise from another person and went on a shoplifting spree, a woman who set fire to items inside a probation centre and a violent man who breached a restraining order have all been sentenced at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court in recent days.
While some cases were adjourned to a later date and others sent to Grimsby Crown Court, magistrates in Grimsby still handed out prison sentences, community orders and hefty fines to offenders last week.
Here are nine people from across northern Lincolnshire who have been sentenced at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court.

Michael Whyte, 55, of St Andrews Court, Immingham pleaded guilty to one count of theft from a person in which he stole a box with a tortoise inside and five Amazon boxes, and to seven counts of theft from a shop in which he stole £130 of chocolate, sweets and laundry products from B&M, cakes and meat worth more than £90 from SPAR, electric toothbrushes worth £75 from B&M, alcohol worth £50 from Asda and sweets and confectionery worth £50 from Sainsbury’s. He was given a 12-month suspended sentence order.
Jade Orr, 37, of St James’ Square, Grimsby indicated a plea of guilty to arson in which she set fire to blinds and a windowsill at a probation centre in Scunthorpe. She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £75 in compensation.
Allen Bratley, 35, of Day Close, Keadby indicated a plea of guilty to harassment in which he made contact with someone he was prohibited from doing so by a restraining order, and changed a previous plea of not guilty to guilty for one count of assault by beating. He was jailed for 10 weeks.
Connor Burns, 21, of Amesbury Avenue, Grimsby was found guilty of assaulting a person occasioning them actual bodily harm. He was given a community order with a requirement to serve 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £500 in compensation.
Joshua Stephenson, 27, of Chesswick Avenue, Keadby pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath when asked by police to do so, having been the driver of a vehicle. He was banned from driving for two years, given a community order with a 100-hour unpaid work requirement and ordered to pay a £114 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Mark Fox, 45, of Barnes Crescent, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath when asked by police to do so, having been the driver of a vehicle. He was banned from driving for six months and fined £200.
Christopher Drury, 34, of Stanley Street, Grimsby pleaded guilty to one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £40 victim services surcharge.
Barrie Rawson, 37, of Barrow Road, Barrow-upon-Humber pleaded guilty to one count of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Ellie Bromley, 19, of Barcroft Street, Cleethorpes was found guilty of one count of criminal damage in which she damaged property worth £200 belonging to another. She was given a one-year restraining order.
