This year’s Big Green Scunthorpe 10k attracted 900 runners, who each gave it their all in the glorious Scunthorpe sunshine.
Also taking part were a vibrantly dressed cohort of staff from the University Campus North Lincolnshire, who donned everything from capes to caps and lab coats to goggles.
But, behind the somewhat playful nature of UCNL’s entry into the race, was a serious fundraising message – as the team rallied round to spread the word in relation to Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare’s wonderful work.
Situated in the heart of North Lincolnshire, Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare has been providing high-quality, specialist palliative care and wellbeing services to local people and families living with progressive life limiting illnesses for over 30 years.
Raising a grand total of £688, UCNL were delighted to be able to support a local charity, who make such a key difference in the community.
Emma Hartley, Fundraising Coordinator at Lindsey Lodge Hospice, said: “We would like to thank everyone from UCNL that took part in the Big Green Scunthorpe 10K to support the Hospice – without the support of fantastic local teams, we simply would not be able to continue to provide the specialist end of life and palliative care that we have become so well known for.
“The Hospice costs £4.6 million a year to run, so every single penny that our community help us to raise really is received so gratefully. We appreciate the continued support from the UCNL team and look forward to working with them again in the future.”
On the back of their fundraising successes, UCNL has pledged additional campaigns to generate funds for the charity, in a partnership which both organisations are excited to further fortify.
Laura Raby-Anderson, Head of HE Recruitment at DN Colleges Group, said: “UCNL is extremely proud to have been involved in the Big Green Scunthorpe 10k, organised by the fabulous Curly’s Athletes team.
“I would like to extend our thanks to the UCNL team, who ran the 10k in support of Lindsey Lodge Hospice – thank you also to everyone who sponsored the team. In addition, it is important to also highlight our wonderful Sport and Exercise students, who provided sports massage to the runners before and after the race in their own time for free.
“A truly fantastic event – we will see you again next year.”
