ADVERTORIAL: Christmas is officially here as details for the Scunthorpe Christmas Light Switch On announced

Christmas is officially coming to Scunthorpe town centre later this month, with an action-packed day of free family entertainment guaranteed and special guests launching the festive season with a bang.

The entertainment will begin in Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Church Square on Saturday, November 25 from 12pm with the Jingle Jam, a brand new event for 2023.

Hosted by Mrs Claus, the jam will see local arts, drama, school and musical groups showcasing their talents on the Switch On stage.

At 3.30pm, Viking FM take over with games and festive prizes up for grabs. Breakfast show presenters Alex and Nicola will be counting down to the big switch on at 5.30pm, with a special guest appearance from Scunthorpe pantomime legend, Dame Annie Fanny.

With more than 2,000 free car parking spaces available across Scunthorpe town centre, everyone will be able to enjoy the festivities.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Our all-day Christmas Lights Switch On event is filled to the brim with festive cheer. There are so many family-friendly activities taking place across the town centre before the switch on, so make sure you come down early and enjoy everything on offer.

“With all-day free parking on a Saturday in the town centre, it’s a great chance to shop local, pick up those stocking fillers and support Scunthorpe’s retailers.”

As well as Christmas shopping, there will be fun fair rides in the high street from 10am until 7.30pm and appearances from walkabout puppets Hodman and Sally, the Snow Sisters and Elf on the Shelf as well as Annie Fanny and the Beauty and the Beast panto cast.

The family fun also heads to St John’s Market, which will be extending its opening to 7pm. The Rock Choir will be performing throughout the day, alongside children’s entertainers, arts and crafts sessions, a Christmas garden display and a festive tombola for shoppers to enjoy.

Scunthorpe Central Library will also be open until 6.30pm and will be running children’s activities throughout the afternoon based on Beauty and the Beast, including drop in crafts and an escape room.

20-21 Visual Arts Centre will also be open until 6.30pm and will be running festive craft sessions with Christmas food and drinks available in the café.
