All the restaurants awarded AA Rosettes in northern Lincolnshire that are perfect for that special occasion

Whatever the occasion, it’s no secret that a meal out to a fancy restaurant is always a welcome treat.

Luckily for us, northern Lincolnshire boasts an array of fantastic eateries serving up a range of cuisines, many of which have been awarded AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence, making them among the top restaurants in the entire country.

First started in 1956, the AA Rosette award scheme was the first of its kind in the country for assessing the cooking skill and quality of food served by restaurants and hotels. Only around 10 percent of restaurants nationwide are worthy of receiving one or more Rosettes, so receiving the award is a huge achievement.

Below are the restaurants in northern Lincolnshire that have achieved one or more AA Rosettes this year.

Winteringham Fields has been awarded four AA Rosettes

Number of Rosettes: 4

Address: 1 Silver St, Winteringham, Scunthorpe, DN15 9ND

Inspector’s comments:

“With views to the Humber and a peaceful village setting, this former farmhouse, with a charming courtyard and bedrooms in the delightfully converted outbuildings, has been one of the UK’s best-known dining destinations for decades. The restaurant itself is a cosy, intimate warren of rooms and private dining areas, the decor modern but quite formal, with white-clothed tables and a sharply dressed front of house team who are knowledgeable and professional.

“The menu is thoroughly seasonal, different each day, and dishes are skilfully cooked and presented. Flavour combinations are not over complicated, and the main focus is the quality and integrity of the ingredients along with high levels of technical expertise. The wine list includes a very good selection by the glass, and wine pairings are available to match the menu.

“A neatly presented starter of a beautifully light and perfectly balanced dish of cured seabream with diced beetroot and apple and a rich anchovy cream shows the style, and might be followed by a sublime, perfectly executed loin of venison, stuffed with juniper berries and dates.”

Inspector’s comments:

“The 18th-century restaurant with rooms in the centre of town has a contemporary finish and aims to impress with boutique styling and an open-plan interior. In the main restaurant, the output is broadly modern British, with some inventive combinations and plenty to satisfy any traditionalists.”

“A traditional pub and dining restaurant attached to ivy-clad Healing Manor Hotel, the Pig & Whistle offers upscale pub grub with relaxed but efficient service. There is direct access to the patio and garden from the bar and contemporary dining room. Dog-friendly, there’s even a menu just for canine visitors.”

Address: 11 High St E, Scunthorpe, DN15 6UH

Inspector’s comments:

“Pietro Catalano, who hails from Sicily, has created a restaurant with rooms in a former windmill that combines the best of Italian hospitality with a touch of boutique swagger. A first course dish of ballotine of rabbit and foie gras shows the style ambition.”

Number of Rosettes: 1

Address: Kingsway, Cleethorpes, DN35 0AE

Inspector’s comments:

“Located on the seafront, the Kingsway is a historic hotel which first opened its doors in 1926. The modern British ‘table d’hote’ menu has European influences and is available both at lunch and dinner. Meals are served in the beautiful wood panelled restaurant with wide bay windows allowing plenty of natural daylight and fabulous sea views.”
