Caddick Construction launches new Wakefield head office following £3.8m renovation

The construction arm of Caddick Group has moved into new headquarters in Wakefield following £3.8m of renovation works.

The major contractor’s new base at Wakefield 41 Business Park was formerly Cape House, and is now named Calder House in a nod to the firm’s former head office at Calder Grange in Knottingley where the business has been based for 45 years. Bosses at the £318m turnover firm say the location will be home to 130 employees and used to service a £700m+ order book.

Renovation works at Cape House have extended its size from 11,000 sqft to 15,000 sqft and added features such as electric vehicle charging points and solar panels. It also features a glazed atrium, a cafe, open-plan office space and a wellbeing zone.

The premises will also host the group’s other businesses including Caddick Civil Engineering, which was said to have achieved a record £13.5m turnover last year, and CCL Facades – the facade specialist that Caddick rescued from administration in 2022.

Accounts for Caddick Construction, published last month and covering 2023, show the business returned to an operating profit of £6.7m having reported a £2.5m loss the year before. Bosses also pointed to a strong cash balance of £31.9m.

Paul Dodsworth, construction group managing director at Caddick, said: “Caddick Construction was established in 1979 at our former premises at Calder Grange in Knottingley, and these offices have served us well as we have grown and evolved over the years. We are undergoing an exciting period of change; we are growing in size and stature, but we are also determined to enhance our reputation for delivering high quality projects whilst ensuring the family ethos and feel is retained.

“Investing in our new office is not just about increasing our capacity. Our people and clients deserve an office that represents Caddick Construction Group, a place to do business that is energised and sustainable. We recently welcomed our new regional managing director, Steve Ford, to the business and I am very excited about the future as we look to increase our presence in Yorkshire and the North East under Steve’s leadership.”
