Christmas comes to Lincolnshire village thanks to stunning house display

A home in a North Lincolnshire village is impressing neighbours with a festive display.

Mum-of-three Phillipa Hobson Ellyatt wanted to celebrate the festive time of year in style with her three young children. Back when the family lived in Belper in the North Midlands, a neighbour would go all out on Christmas decorations for charity – something that has stuck with the family.

Wanting to make a community wide celebration, the family have started to make their own Christmas display for the entire community of Ealand to enjoy throughout December.

Phillipa said how she wanted to make something for the entire village to enjoy. “We do a switch on anyway with friends and family – which we had on Saturday [Nov. 30]. We decided then that we’d open it up to the community. “

Having bought a big decorated archway for people to have photos under to get in the festive mood, it took a lot of time to construct, with the family often using their lunch breaks to ensure that the house was ready for the grand switch on

“It’s quite a big display, with all the blow ups and things. We’ve added our own Christmas trees – we bought them when the kids were little, every year we bought the kids their own tree, and we grown it ourselves in the garden in pots, and now we’ve got them on display every year and decorate them. It’s our sort of family Christmas trees!”

“We put the lights on between 5pm and 8pm, if its really windy we cant have the blow ups, but we thought everybody can see it. We had quiet a lot of the neighbours come out and see it, and we just wanted to open it out to the community.”
