A couple who neglected their pet dogs, a man who used threatening and abusive words at a train station, and a host of speeding drivers: it has been a busy week at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court.
Last week, magistrates in Grimsby handed out suspended sentences, fines and driving bans to offenders from across northern Lincolnshire. More serious cases were adjourned to be dealt with at Grimsby Crown Court.
Here are nine people who appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court in recent days – and how their cases were decided on.

Lianne Burns, 38, of Gilbey Road, Grimsby admitted to failing to ensure that the needs of two dogs for which she was responsible were met, by confining the dogs to an area with insufficient space. She was banned from keeping animals for 10 years, ordered to pay costs of £350 and a £114 victim services surcharge, and handed a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Luke Pickering, 34, of Gilbey Road, Grimsby was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after he admitted to failing to provide adequate nutrition for the dogs’ needs. He was banned from keeping animals for 10 years, ordered to pay costs of £350 and a £154 victim services surcharge, and handed a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Blake Barley, 24, of Ripon Close, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment or distress. He was subjected to a curfew via an electronic monitoring device and handed a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. He was also ordered to pay a £114 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Chavadar Ivanov, 41, of Talbot Road, Immingham was found guilty of abandoning a motor vehicle on land in open air without lawful authority to do so. He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £264 and costs of £272.
Aurel Pitigoi, 55, of Ripon Street, Grimsby indicated a plea of guilty to knowingly causing controlled waste, namely a television stand, to be deposited on land without an environmental permit. He was ordered to pay costs of £132, fined £120 and charged a victim services surcharge of £48.
Ryan Kiff, 29, of Fountains Avenue, Grimsby pleaded guilty through the Single Justice Procedure to driving on a road at 83mph when the speed limit was 70mph. He was disqualified from driving for six months due to repeat offending, was fined £200, ordered to pay costs of £110 and an £80 victim services surcharge.
Ryan Matthews, 30, of Collum Avenue, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty through the Single Justice Procedure to driving at 60mph when the speed limit was 30mph. He was handed six points on his licence, fined £500, ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £200 and costs of £110.
Gareth Smith, 33, of Fortuna Way, Grimsby pleaded guilty through the Single Justice Procedure to driving on a road at 57mph when the speed limit was 30mph. He was disqualified from driving for seven days, fined £200, ordered to pay costs of £110 and a victim services surcharge of £80.
Steven Freer, 33, of Winslow Grove, Grimsby admitted breaching the requirements of a community order by failing to attend unpaid work appointments. He was fined £100.
