A day of family fun was had by all at a special Christmas fair in Scunthorpe over the weekend.

Held at the Kimberley Performing Arts Centre on Enderby Road on Saturday, the special event had a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy, including festive dance performances and appearances from a whole host of special guests, including Santa and his elves, the Grinch himself and a pair of adorable alpacas.

More than 20 stallholders were also present with incredible Christmas gift options and stocking fillers, giving the grown-ups the chance to do some essential shopping while the kids had their faces painted. Guests even had a sneak peek at scenes from the performing arts centre’s very own pantomime, Peter Pan.

A young woman accused of throwing a milkshake over Nigel Farage has denied assault

The Reform UK leader was doused with what appeared to be a McDonald’s banana drink Mr Farage, who is now Clacton MP, had earlier addressed supporters at a rally in the seaside town during the general election campaign. The veteran Eurosceptic, 60, was left with the yellow liquid splattered across his dark blue suit. Victoria Thomas Bowen, 25, of St Osyth Road in the seaside town, pleaded not guilty to both charges at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. Prosecutors say £30 of criminal damage was caused to a jacket belonging to James Woolfenden. Caroline Liggins, partner at Hodge Jones & Allen, the law firm representing Bowen, said: “My client strongly protests her innocence and looks forward to fighting these unjust charges in court.” Bowen was released on unconditional bail to appear before the same court for trial on October 21. If proved, the offence of assault by beating, contrary to Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, carries a maximum penalty of six months’ custody and/or an unlimited fine. Being convicted of the criminal damage charge could lead to three months’ custody and/or a maximum fine of £2,500. Last month, 28-year-old Josh Greally admitted throwing a coffee cup and another item at Mr Farage as he campaigned on his battle bus in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on Tuesday June 11. Greally, of Damsbrook Drive, Clowne, Derbyshire, appeared before a district judge at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to a public order offence. He will be sentenced on August 28 at the same court. During a campaign walkabout in Newcastle in 2019, Mr Farage had a banana and salted caramel milkshake thrown at him. “Milkshaking” – the act of dousing public figures in milkshake – was officially recognised by Collins Dictionary the same year. UK inflation to fall below target for first time in three years economists say

The fight against inflation in the UK could see it fall below the Bank of England’s target level for the first time in more than three years, economists have predicted. New data released from the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday will reveal how fast prices were rising across the UK last month. It comes after inflation returned to the Bank’s 2% target in May, after nearly three years of it being above target largely as a result of soaring food and energy prices. But analysts think the rate of Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation might have undershot the target in June, with it coming in at 1.9% for the month, according to a consensus compiled by Pantheon Macroeconomics. The last time it was below target was in April 2021, when CPI was recorded at 1.5%. “After nearly three years of running above target, in May, UK CPI inflation returned to the Bank of England’s target of 2%. This is indisputably good news,” said Sandra Horsfield, an economist for Investec. “Yet jubilation about this must be tempered: the ‘cost-of-living crisis’ is far from over for some.” “The new Labour government will need to factor ongoing cost-of-living pressures in for some time yet, even if CPI inflation stays broadly on target,” she said. Meanwhile, experts said it will be the finer details of the inflation data that could come under greater scrutiny. In particular, economists will be looking at services inflation, which tracks categories such as hospitality, culture and housing, and has put more pressure on the overall rate in recent months. Sanjay Raja, a senior economist for Deutsche Bank, said he expects live music inflation to nearly double to around 10% in June from 5.7% in May. This was partly driven by Taylor Swift’s arena tour in UK cities last month, he said. Any signs of persistent inflation will present a fresh dilemma for the Bank of England’s interest rate-setters. Andrew Bailey, the Bank’s Governor, stressed last month that it needs “to be sure that inflation will stay low”, which is why it decided to hold interest rates at 5.25% “for now”. James Smith, developed market economist for ING, said: “Policymakers are still almost exclusively focused on services inflation, and it’s the one remaining release of this data that will determine whether the Bank can cut rates in August.” But he said that “barring any big surprises” in the inflation data, he is expecting the Bank to want to start cutting rates this summer.
