Temporary works engineering firm Mabey Hire has been acquired by German group PERI in an undisclosed deal.
The West Yorkshire specialist in bridging and shoring works, which employs about 400 people, has become part of the 9,000-strong worldwide provider of formwork and scaffolding systems worldwide. Mabey, which reported turnover of £53.3m and operating profit of £9.5m in the year to the end of September 2023, has a track record in delivering services such as propping and jacking for renovation, temporary access bridges and sensors for construction projects.
It will continue to trade under existing management and name, as an independent company within the umbrella of PERI’s £1.6bn (€1.9bn) group which has been operating for 55 years. The group includes more than 65 subsidiaries and has 60 locations worldwide.

Within most recent accounts for Mabey, bosses said the Dewsbury firm had continued to show excellent resilience coming out of the pandemic and into inflationary headwinds. During firm noted the launch of its export division, MH International, and the exiting of its Iver branch along with major investment in its Bilston branch. Taken together the changes were expected to boost profitability in coming years.
