Grimsby court list – Ten offenders named and shamed

A man who stalked a woman at her place of work and a violent offender who launched an attack on three people at B&M in Grimsby have been sentenced by magistrates in Grimsby.

While some cases were adjourned to a later date and others sent to Grimsby Crown Court, offenders from across northern Lincolnshire were still handed prison sentences, community orders and hefty fines last week.

Here are ten people who have been sentenced at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court in recent days.

Michael Sadler, 39, of Manchester Street, Cleethorpes pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, driving without an appropriate licence and to one count of stalking, in which he pursued a course of conduct which amounted to stalking, namely by repeatedly visiting the victim’s place of work and making lewd comments and suggestions. He was given a two-year restraining order and a community order with the requirement to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Carl Atkin, 39, of Lord Street, Grimsby was found guilty of four counts of assault by beating during an incident at B&M in Grimsby in which he threw numerous items at and assaulted three people. He was also found guilty of criminal damage in which he damaged a computer monitor, label printer, hand scanner and other items belonging to B&M, and of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence. He was given a community order with the requirement to undergo drug rehabilitation and ordered to pay £300 in compensation.



Grimsby Magistrates Court

Lewis Drake, 20, of Arran Close, New Waltham pleaded guilty to driving whilst above the legal alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident. He was given a one-year suspended sentence order, banned from drinking alcohol for four months and ordered to pay a £154 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Matthew Carter, 33, of no fixed abode indicated pleas of guilty to three counts of theft from a shop in which he stole tester perfume bottles worth £400 and cosmetic products worth £176 from Boots. He was jailed for 12 weeks and ordered to pay £576 in compensation.

Joshua Hobson, 19, of Pine Park, Barton upon Humber pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence and to the criminal damage of a door to the value of £300 belonging to the Job Centre. He was given a community order and ordered to pay £300 in compensation.

Lewis Bevers, 40, of Convamore Road, Grimsby pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was given a one-year restraining order and a six-month conditional discharge.

Dean Mercier, 63, of Parkers Lane, Scunthorpe indicated pleas of guilty to two counts of theft from a shop in which he stole alcohol worth £117 from Sainsbury’s and alcohol worth £100 from Morrisons. He was jailed for four weeks and ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Joanne Gray, 48, of Wintringham Road, Grimsby pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop in which she stole £90 worth of items from Sainsbury’s and £170 worth of items from Asda. She was given a community order and ordered to pay £72 in compensation.

Michael Delaney, 50, of Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage in which he damaged an intercom and cell belonging to Humberside Police, and indicated a plea of guilty to the possession of cannabis. He was ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Ellie Nelson, 25, of Killingholme Road, Habrough pleaded guilty to driving whilst above the legal alcohol limit. She was banned from driving for 10 months and ordered to pay a fine of £550, £300 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £220 victim services surcharge.
