North Lincolnshire Council has said its gritters were out in force at the weekend, after wintry weather conditions saw some bus services disrupted in the area.
Stagecoach East Midlands posted on X on Sunday morning that it was experiencing problems with all services in the Scunthorpe area. The 1A Ashby and Westcliff circular, and the number 6 Ashby-Scunthorpe service had cancellations in the earlier part of Sunday. The 350 Hull to Scunthorpe service also bypassed Winterton, Winteringham and South Ferriby due to stuck vehicles on Dragonby Hill, until late Sunday morning.
North Lincolnshire Council told Scunthorpe Live its gritters were out in force over the weekend. They only stopped when heavy rain came down on Sunday, meaning no more could be done.
A council spokesperson added its gritters had doubled salt put on roads in the last week because of the forecast snow.
“We can confirm that the gritters were out in force during all hours over the weekend, including Saturday evening and Sunday,” said a North Lincolnshire Council spokesperson. “During last week because of the amount of forecasted snow they doubled the load of salt going onto the roads to create what is called a ‘delaminating layer’ which was a proactive precaution.
“Then on the weekend itself the gritters were out Friday evening into Saturday and then Saturday evening into Sunday until the heavy rain came down meaning there was nothing more that could be done. Salt bins continue to be filled and the gritters will be out in force again this week to rebuild resilience on our network of roads.”
