How much house prices have soared in Grimsby and Scunthorpe during era of Location, Location, Location

The popular Channel 4 property show Location Location Location is back on our screens on Wednesday for its 40th series.

When the show first aired back in May 2000, the average house in England and Wales cost just £78,810, according to data from the Land Registry. The latest figures show that this has since shot up to £299,715, a staggering rise of 286 per cent.

In North East Lincolnshire, meanwhile, the average cost of a property has risen by 272 per cent, slightly below the national average. In North Lincolnshire, however, the average property price is a little higher, at a rate of 293 per cent.

In 2000, the average cost of a property in the Grimsby area was £41,154, whereas a property in 2023 costs in the region of £152,928. In Scunthorpe, the average price of a house now is £189,563, up from £48,285 in 2000.

The rise in the average price has not been equal across the country, with Manchester seeing the biggest percentage rise of any local authority in the country. The average house in Manchester cost £41,625 back in May 2000. That has since shot up to £241,956 according to the latest data, a rise of 481 per cent.

The City of London has seen the next largest percentage increase in house prices since Location, Location, Location first aired. Homes there now cost 408 per cent more than they did 23 years ago. Hackey is next at 394 per cent, followed by Waltham Forest at 390 per cent, Leicester at 384 per cent, Thanet at 373 per cent, and Isle of Anglesey at 386 per cent.
