Louth is set to host its first ever food and drink festival showcasing a range of products and businesses along with a chance to be crowned ‘baker of the best scones in the Wolds’.
The event, organised by East Lindsey District Council, will take place on Lincolnshire Day, Sunday, October 1, in the town centre from 10am to 4pm. There will be more than 60 stalls offering all sorts of produce including cakes, cheeses and much more.
As well as the food and drink, there will also be performances from local groups at different venues throughout the day. Visitors can expect live music too along with a children’s area for the little ones to enjoy shows like The Hungry Caterpillar.
The event is part of the Vital and Viable Market Towns initiative, promoting and preserving towns in the East Lindsey area.
A scone competition is being held on the day by bakery The Rolling Scones too. Residents will be given the chance to prove themselves as the next Mary Berry or Prue Leith in four different categories – savoury scone (any flavour), sweet scone (any flavour), under 16s (sweet scone – any flavour) and local businesses (fruit scone).
Competitors must pick a specific class before making six scones to enter into the running. After the event, the council will be launching a digital map to showcase the food and drink on offer across the Louth area.
Councillor Adam Grist, East Lindsey District Council portfolio holder for Market Towns and Rural Economy, said: “We are incredibly excited for the festival to kick off in less than a week’s time, and to enjoy the fantastic variety of high-quality food and drink businesses on offer in Louth and the surrounding area. It will be fantastic to see residents, visitors and traders come together to celebrate and explore this offer for themselves.
“It’s amazing to see such fantastic competitions and events scheduled to happen within the festival throughout the day, as it will hopefully get people engaged and encourage them to show off their abilities or try something new. I would encourage everyone to come along to support our local businesses and producers, while also getting involved in some amazing competitions, activities and performances.”
