Love Your Town finale to kick off in Cleethorpes this weekend – full programme of activities

The grand finale of the Love Your Town event will kick off in Cleethorpes this weekend – and it promises countless activities and entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Designed to encourage people to love the town they live in, the event will take place throughout Saturday, February 17 from the morning until the evening, and will include special walking and culinary tours, markets with items by local makers, wellbeing activities and story-telling and arts and crafts activities for little ones – not to mention the wacky entertainment within the streets of Cleethorpes.

St Peter’s Church Hall

10am-4pm – Message on a Map by Evie Henderson. Drop-in interactive activity to explore the relationships and love for your town, home and community. Local artist, Francesca Young, will create one large map of the three towns (Cleethorpes, Immingham & Grimsby) filled with landmark areas and places. You will pin your memories to the map connecting them. Local poet James Alexander Hall will write a poem filled and enthused by these memories.

11am and 12pm – Live music by local artist Brad Arliss

12.30pm-1.30pm and 2pm-3pm – Mermaid Life Drawing Class by Unseen Arts. Family friendly life drawing session, with merfolk as the model. Plus photo opportunities and chats about ocean safety and sustainability. First session is sold out, but BOOK HERE for second session.

10am-4pm – Artisan market selling jewellery and candles to cheese and themed gifts by local makers.

10am-4pm – Chats about wellbeing books and colouring activities by Katie Hopper

10am-4pm – The Cleethorpes Heart Trail with Lacuna

Pop into one of the participating shops in the town centre that display the poster “I’m part of the Heart Trail”. Grab a trail sheet with the questions and start your hunt. Search across the town centre to find the 3D Hearts by Lacuna that will have the answer to the questions on your trail sheet. Once you have found all the Hearts, hand your completed trail sheet in at the Discover North East Lincolnshire information stand in St Peter’s church hall for a sweet reward and to be submitted into a draw to win fabulous prizes.

12pm-1pm – Heritage Walking Tour by Carla Linford

Want to find out more about Cleethorpes’s rich history and heritage? Carla Linford of Lingard’s Lincolnshire Walking Tours will lead a guided history tour around Cleethorpes for up to 20 people. BOOK HERE.

10am-12pm – Culinary Discoveries Guided Food Tour

A self-guided trail will take you on a journey of culinary discovery around North East Lincolnshire produce. To celebrate the launch, the LOVE CLEETHORPES event will be hosting a guided Food Tour including stops and tasters at some participating eateries in Cleethorpes town centre. The tour will last up to two hours and spaces are very limited so book early. Meeting point and first stop is Riverhead Coffee, St Peter’s Avenue. BOOK HERE.

Cleethorpes Library

11am-12pm – Little Readers event by Lincs Inspire. Stories, rhymes, play and simple crafts all aimed at pre-schoolers.

Out and about in Cleethorpes

10am-4pm – Queen of Hearts stilt walkers, The Bubbleologists, Bandanarama and the Giddy Aunts walkabout performances

The air in the streets of Cleethorpes will be filled by brassy, saxy vibes from Bandanarama, a fabulous 12-piece brass band from Hull, along with more love-themed walkabout performances from the Queens of Hearts Stilt Walkers.

Watch out for once more for the intrepid shoppers, The Giddy Aunts, as they enjoy a rare ‘escape’ from the Care Home. Complete with their trundley trolley and handbags, these two will have you in stitches with their outrageous antics.

Don’t miss The Bubbleologist as they fill the town centre with beautiful, giant bubbles for you to chase and pop.

Cleethorpes Seafront

10am-3pm – Wave of Love workshops at Lacuna, 1 Kingsway. Craft a 2D papier-mache heart to take part in the Wave of Love finale on Cleethorpes beach (Brighton Slipway) at 3pm. Each heart will have a label narrating the LOVE theme and telling your story.

3pm – Love Your Town Wave of Love finale (weather permitting). Gather on Cleethorpes beachfront at Brighton Street Slipway (just opposite Lacuna) from 3pm with your 2D heart to take part in the Love Your Town Wave of Love Finale. Together we will create love-themed designs in the sand and a giant Mexican wave using your heart creations. With live music by Brad Arliss, you will be joined by Taiko drummers, street theatre performances and the LOVE IRL selfie installation by Stuart Langley. Drone photography will also capture the finale.

10.30am and 12pm – Interactive Story Telling with Rhubarb Theatre. An enchanting in-person experience in which Kirsty from Rhubarb Theatre invites children aged 3-7 to be captivated by magical tales. Book online for the 10.30 am session or the 12pm session.

Burn Gym, Cleethorpes

11.30am – Valentine’s Hula Hoop workshop with Mystic Movements. People are invited to explore the theme of self-love through discussion, activities and self-expression by creative movement. All equipment provided, pre-booking required via email to themysticmovements@gmail.com.

Cleethorpes Leisure Centre

6pm-8pm – Love themed Roller Disco by Lincs Inspire. A fun roller-skating session with disco lights and music. Sign up here.
