An 85-year-old man was left bleeding on the floor and “absolutely broken” after having his wallet stolen in broad daylight on a Scunthorpe street.
Police were called to the junction of Lichfield Avenue at around 12.45pm on Tuesday (September 26), where it was reported that the elderly man had had his wallet containing £150 in cash and his bank cards stolen. The victim suffered a facial injury during the incident, and members of the public rallied to help him and administer first aid.
A man was arrested by police a short time later and has now been charged with robbery and possession of class B drugs. Michael Clixby, 41, of no fixed abode, was due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The witness who called Humberside Police told Scunthorpe Live: “I was driving down Swinburne Road and I got to the junction and, because of a learner driving in front of me taking a while to make the turn, as I was waiting I was just looking around. Then I spotted the gentleman on the floor.
“My first thought was that he’d taken a fall and I was going to help him up. But as I got closer to him I realised there were cups of blood pouring from his nose. I got him to sit up straight, and attempted to get him to stop the bleeding. I’m first aid trained but didn’t have gloves on me so I was giving him instructions.
“While doing this I was on the phone to 999 to get an ambulance to check him over. A couple of members of the public came across to help and a training nurse came across to help as well. Tesco workers brought a first aid kit across and a chair to get him sat down. After he was cleaned up I called the police, and they arrived within 15 minutes.”
A fundraiser has since been set up to help the victim, and more than £1,000 has been donated of a £200 target by more than 70 kind-hearted people.
The Gofundme collection was set up by the owner of Victoria’s Tea Room Deliveries who started delivering hot meals to the victim four years ago and says he is “absolutely broken” after the incident on Tuesday. Victoria added: “I am fundraising to give back what was stolen from him, pay for a gardener as he needs help with his garden which has been getting him down for weeks. I know this will mean a lot to him.
“Any donation will be greatly appreciated – thank you THANK YOU!.” You can donate to the fundraiser here.
