Man arrested following incident on Scunthorpe railway bridge

A man has been arrested following an incident on a railway bridge in Scunthorpe.

Police were called to the bridge, near Howden’s Hill, in the early hours of today (Tuesday, May 28), following reports of a concern for safety.

Road and railway closures were subsequently put in place to ensure the safety of people in the area whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, common assault and causing a public nuisance.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday morning, Northern said: “Services between Doncaster and Scunthorpe are being disrupted due to a trespass incident. Emergency services are on site and dealing with the incident.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A man is currently in our custody after officers were called to reports of concern for safety on a railway bridge near to Howden’s Hill in Scunthorpe early this morning, Tuesday 28 May.

“Emergency services attended and road closures were put in place, as well as railway closures by colleagues at British Transport Police, to ensure the safety of everyone in the area whilst the incident was safely resolved.

“One man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, common assault and causing a public nuisance. He remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue.”
