Man given restraining order after leaving voicemail – court round-up

A man handed a restraining order after he sent a menacing or offensive voicemail, a motorist caught driving whilst disqualified and cyclists breaching Public Space Protection Orders – these are just some people who were sentenced by magistrates in Grimsby last week.

While some cases were adjourned to be tried at a later date and others sent to Grimsby Crown Court, magistrates still handed out community orders and fines to offenders from across northern Lincolnshire.

Here are some cases that appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court last week.

Martin Usher, 62, of Claymore Close, Cleethorpes pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating, one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and one count of sending a voicemail message which was grossly offensive or of menacing character. He was handed a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, given a two-year restraining order and ordered to pay a £114 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

David Wilson, 35, of Ashby Road, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and without insurance, and indicated a plea of guilty to the possession of cannabis. He was given six points on his licence, fined £300 and ordered to pay a £120 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.



Grimsby Magistrates Court

Stephen Khan, 52, of Pershore Avenue, Grimsby pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence against two people. He was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £300 in compensation.

Robbie Ross, 27, of Fildes Street, Grimsby pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence against a police officer. He was handed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £26 victim services surcharge.

Susan Brant, 50, of Edwards Road, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating. She was fined £120.

Luke Bristow, 21, of Tunnard Street, Grimsby pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to the Mariners Rest pub. He was handed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £26.

John Kirby, 38, of Newark Walk, Immingham was found guilty of failing to supply income and employment details for Council Tax purposes. He was fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £200 and a victim services surcharge of £88.

Joshua Purton, 30, of Columbus Way, Grimsby was found guilty of breaching a Public Space Protection Order by riding his bicycle in a prohibited cycling zone. He was ordered to pay costs of £226, fined £220 and ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £88.

Lee Tear, 45, of Sutcliffe Avenue, Grimsby was found guilty of breaching a Public Space Protection Order by riding his bicycle in a prohibited cycling zone. He was ordered to pay costs of £226, fined £220 and ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £88.

Andrew Daly, 45, of Station Road, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to stealing £100 worth of meat from Aldi. He was handed a six-month Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and ordered to pay £100 in compensation and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Ryan McEwan, 43, of Elsenham Road, Grimsby pleaded guilty to stealing multiple packs of LEGO and cleaning products from B&M. He was ordered to pay £91 in compensation.
