This is the wonderful moment little Reggie Aslin led out his Grimsby Town heroes on Saturday afternoon.

As reported by Grimsby Live, Reggie, 7, suffered a series of devastating strokes earlier this year, following surgery for his complex heart condition. But following a strong recovery, he was able to join the players on the pitch ahead of the away clash with Walsall.

The occasion was special in more ways than one: Reggie was joined by his “best pal” Alfie Donnelly, 10, who has a similar heart condition and who led out the Walsall side. The boys became friends through a support group, but had never met in person before.

Cat sanctuary raises 12000 to restore a demolished pen after Storm Darragh

A cat sanctuary has raised more than £12,500 after a fallen tree branch “demolished” a newly-built pen housing rescued cats, during Storm Darragh. Rosemary Spicer, a trustee of the Avon Cat Rescue near Stratford-upon-Avon in the West Midlands, said some of the cats have “vanished” from the destroyed pen, which was damaged after the fourth named storm of the year battered parts of the country over the weekend. She hopes to raise money for the cat sanctuary, which houses more than 60 cats, and rebuild the destroyed pen. “A huge branch of a very old tree fell right on the top of one of our cat pens and completely demolished it. There were five cats in situ, and they’ve all vanished,” Ms Spicer told the PA news agency. “We have seen them, but we can’t get them back. They’re semi-feral so they won’t go far, but we can’t get them in at the moment.” She said some of the other cats “couldn’t move with fear” after being spooked by the loud noise of gale-force winds. “I think the noise upset a lot of them,” she said. “There was one cat that we found that was still in there, he couldn’t move with fear, I think, but he’s OK. “It was very terrifying for them. Now we’re going to have to have tree surgeons and chainsaws and all sorts to clear up, so that will be more scary for them as well.” Ms Spicer posted a picture of a fallen tree which had smashed into the pen leaving bark and twigs in its wake. She began a fundraiser on Facebook asking for donations to help restore the pen. “Unfortunately, it’s one of our newer pens, so it’s major PVC (polyvinyl chloride),” she said. “It was state-of-the-art everything involved with electrics and lighting and linings and everything. It costs quite a few thousand to build, and it will take a few thousand to rebuild. “The only thing that’s good left is the flooring. Basically, everything else is gone.” She said people have been “so kind” after local businesses offered their services free to repair any damages. “We thought, ‘shall we put a photo on (Facebook) or not?’ We thought we’ll give it a go, and it’s gone up to £11,000 since yesterday morning which is amazing. “People have offered to help. Builders have offered help, tree surgeons have offered free help. People have offered to take the cats temporarily, so everyone’s been so kind.” The independent cat charity has been running for 61 years, taking in cats for rehoming or keeping them safe if they are not rehomed. Referee David Coote has been sacked following the emergence of a video where he made derogatory remarks about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp. Referee David Coote has been sacked following the emergence of a video where he made derogatory remarks about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp. Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed the termination of the 42-year-old Nottinghamshire official’s employment in a statement on Monday afternoon, saying that a thorough investigation had concluded he was “in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable”. “Supporting David Coote continues to be important to us and we remain committed to his welfare,” PGMOL’s statement added. “David Coote has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment.” The video which triggered PGMOL’s investigation into Coote’s conduct first came to public attention on November 11. In it, Coote is asked for his views on a Liverpool match where he has just been fourth official, and describes them as “s***”. He then describes Klopp as a “c***”, and, asked why he felt that way, Coote says the German had “a right pop at me when I reffed them against Burnley in lockdown” and had accused him of lying. “I have got no interest in speaking to someone who’s f****** arrogant, so I do my best not to speak to him,” Coote said. Later in the video, Coote again refers to Klopp, this time as a “German c***”. The Football Association opened its own investigation into that video, understood to be centred on that last comment and whether Coote’s reference to Klopp’s nationality constituted an aggravated breach of its misconduct rules. That investigation remains ongoing. The investigation by PGMOL which led to Coote’s contract being terminated is also understood to have looked at another video which appeared to show Coote snorting a white powder, purportedly during Euro 2024 where he was one of the assistant VARs for the tournament. European football’s governing body UEFA also appointed an ethics investigator to look into the matter. The FA is also separately investigating an allegation – strenuously denied by Coote – that he discussed the prospect of giving a Leeds player a yellow card with a fan prior to a match in an online conversation. The Sun alleges after Coote booked the player, he messaged the individual back to say: “I hope you backed as discussed.” The FA said it was investigating the allegation as “a matter of urgency”. Coote said: “I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations. Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life, they have never affected my decision-making on the field. I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.” PGMOL’s investigation did not look at the allegation related to the Leeds yellow card.
