More than 50 jobs are set to be created through the opening of a new gaming hub in Hull.
The £1.6m Federation of Sport is set to open soon in the city’s King William House, the former 1970s bank building in Market Place which is undergoing significant regeneration to create a range of new features including luxury flats and a Tesco Express. The new venture will see the creation of an exciting hub for sports enthusiasts and gaming aficionados, in moves to invigorate the city’s sports and entertainment scene while also providing new jobs and boosting footfall in Hull city centre.
New CGIs show how the hub will look, as directors said the Federation of Sport will become a “cornerstone of recreational and social activity”, offering sporting, play simulating, day coaching, match watching, skill crafting, and tech experiences. Managing director Guy Kilner said the project had secured strong collaboration with key stakeholders across the educational establishments, local authorities and key sports organisations, to ensure it aligns with the needs and aspirations of the city.
He said: “As managing director of Federation of Sport, I am delighted to see our vision come to fruition with the opening of our Hull venue. Our commitment to providing unparalleled experiences in sports and gaming is matched only by our dedication to contributing positively to the local economy and community. We are eager to welcome visitors and residents alike to immerse themselves in the excitement and sociability that Federation of Sport has to offer.”
The venue will offer traditional sports simulations, including football, darts and golf, with a stadium screen on the back wall which will be viewable from communal areas. It will have e-sports tournaments to cater to enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
A spokesman added: “With the UEFA Euro 2024 on the horizon, the Federation of Sport is poised to play a pivotal role in the celebration of this prestigious sporting event. Our aim is to be fully operational and ready to welcome fans, local heroes, and sporting greats, all while providing a unique and engaging space for everyone to enjoy the excitement of the tournament.
“The importance of garnering support from local authorities and communities cannot be overstated in the realisation of this project. Fostering these relationships enhances its appeal as a dynamic and inclusive destination. By engaging with the community, we aim to cultivate an environment that reflects the diverse interests and passions of Hull’s residents.”
