Plans revealed for cookie cafe and extended micro pub in Brigg

All change is afoot in Brigg as a shop vacant for three years in Market Place is to be filled, and a cookie store plans to move into Buttercross.

A hair salon closed approximately three years ago at 11 Market Place, Brigg. Bar and bottle shop The Hop Inn opened next door in June, with an al fresco dining licence too.

It has described itself as “North Lincolnshire’s first ever micro pub”. But it could be soon getting larger, as it has applied to take over the neighbouring unit.

Grimsby Live has previously reported on The Cookie People’s plans for a third store, and its first in Brigg. It would be in the same building as the town’s tourist information office, the iconic Buttercross.

A planning application is now in for the proposed transformation. Read more below about latest planning applications in North Lincolnshire.

Micro pub to get bigger in Brigg

The Hop Inn proposes to hop also into its neighbouring premises as its business continues to grow. The application for the Grade II listed building details that it has been trading successfully since it opened in June.

The proposals would involve joining up 11 and 11A Market Place, with an internal opening to link the units. The expansion will increase seat and sales space, provide a much needed barrel space and increase its WCs from one to two. The layout for queuing and waiting at the existing Hop Inn premises is constricted.

The Cookie People want to create their third outlet in the ground floor of Grade II* listed Buttercross. The area was previously used by the tourist information office. “We plan to turn the current ground floor area into a warm, welcoming and comfortable coffee shop,” it states in an application document.

Owners Andy and Toni Robinson began their business trading on Brigg Farmers’ Market seven years ago. The Cookie People has since opened outlets in Ashby High Street and Central Park, Scunthorpe. The husband and wife team have, however, always dreamed of having a Brigg coffee shop.

25m Telecoms Mast at future major solar farm

An application has been made for a 25m telecoms mast at a future major solar farm near Scunthorpe. Little Crow Solar Park was given permission by the government’s planning inspectorate in 2022.

It will generate enough energy to power up to 60,000 homes – the equivalent of half of North Lincolnshire. In between Broughton and Scunthorpe’s British Steel site, it will have an expected 35 years lifespan.

For its control of faults to prevent them becoming major issues, INRG Solar (Little Crow) Limited has applied to build a 25m mast. “The radio link would allow automatic remote switching and control to prevent faults becoming major issues in terms of safety and customer disruptions,” an application document states.

“It is important to emphasise that in the event of a required shut down of the export of electricity from Little Crow Solar Park due to any faults on the local electricity distribution network which may emerge, it is essential that remote monitoring is implemented.” Twenty-five metres is the minimum height needed to serve the already approved substation compound.

There is also an application for a 12m pole in Goxhill. This is again for important infrastructure radio network purposes. It would be sited within Anglian Water’s compound off Thornton Road. Its purpose is to expand the water company’s smart meter network.

The benefits of smart metering are more efficient operation, including quicker finding and repairs of leaks, and it can provide customers with clear information on their water usage. Archiva Ltd is to build and operate the smart water metering network for Anglian Water. It has already done so for Thames Water and gas and electricity networks in the north. Twelve other sites in Goxhill were considered, but discounted for various reasons.
