Remembrance services are taking place across northern Lincolnshire to remember the fallen of conflicts past and present.
Remembrance Day was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the armistice that ended World Ward One in 1918. It was first observed in 1919 in Britain and its empire territories.
Since the 1990s, a two minute silence has been held nationwide.
Below is your comprehensive list of remembrance services taking place in North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, confirmed by the local authorities, town and parish councils. This also includes associated road closures.
North Lincolnshire
Scunthorpe
The parade will gather outside The Baths Hall on Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe, at 10:10am on Sunday, November 10, before the procession begins at 10.25am. Participants are invited tfor tea and coffee at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe at 9:30am, or to assemble outside the venue from 10am.
The parade, featuring serving personnel, veterans, military organisations, and uniformed groups, will proceed along Doncaster Road to the Cenotaph, outside the North Lincolnshire Museum on Oswald Road. The service there is set to begin at 10.45am.
An Act of Remembrance will take place, including a two-minute silence at 11am, followed by wreath laying at the Cenotaph. After the wreath laying, the parade will march back to The Baths Hall via Vicarage Gardens. The venue will welcome those who wish to gather for refreshments. A minibus will be available for members of the Armed Forces community members unable to return to The Baths Hall on foot.
Mayor of North Lincolnshire Cllr Janet Longcake will lay a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of North Lincolnshire. She said: “I am honoured to participate in the annual Remembrance Day Parade, contributing in any way I can to express our immense gratitude to the armed forces and veterans, both past and present. I look forward to seeing communities coming together to pay tribute.”
North Lincolnshire Council has collaborated with the Royal British Legion Scunthorpe Branch and the 146 Divisional Support Company REME to organizse this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service.
Cllr Elaine Marper, the council’s Armed Forces champion, said: “The armed forces have devotedly safeguarded us for countless years, and it is only fitting that we celebrate and express our gratitude for their ongoing contributions. The council takes pride in its dedication to assisting military personnel, veterans, and their families in line with the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
“We will continue to support them and honour their sacrifice.” On Remembrance Sunday, road closures will occur on Doncaster Road, Oswald Road, Vicarage Gardens, and Exeter Road on the day from 10am to 12pm.
Barton-upon-Humber
Its annual Remembrance Day parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 10. The parade will go by the following route:
Proceeding from The Assembly Rooms located on Queen Street at 10:15am, onto the High Street (between Queen Street and Burgate), Burgate, Whitecross Street (between Beck Hill and Barrow Road junction) and Barrow Road to the War Memorial for 11:00am. Then, the reverse route back concluding at 11:30am.
Brigg
In Brigg, three separate events are taking place in the next week.
On Friday, November 8, at 10:45am, there is a children’s service of remembrance at the War Memorial on Monument Roundabout. Children will present readings, poems and prayers and lay 148 crosses in the gardens at the memorial – one for every name on the monument.
Also on Friday, but from 11:30am, there is a service of remembrance and rededication of the Commonwealth War Graves in Brigg Cemetery. Pupils from Vale Academy and Sir John Nelthorpe have researched the names on the war graves and will bring the stories to life. The exhibition wil run at the War Graves from November 8 to December 10, in Brigg Cemetery.
On Sunday, November 10, is Brigg’s remembrance service parade. It will leave Station Road, Brigg, at 9:20am. It follows Bigby Street, onto Market Place and to St Johns Church – Wrawby Street entrance. There will be a service of remembrance at St John’s Church.
The parade will re-form after at the Wrawby Street entrance, and follows Wrawby Street to Monument Roundabout.
There will then be wreath laying and observation of two minute silence at 11am. The parade re-forms again and heads to Station Road.
Epworth
There will be a march on Remembrance Sunday from the War Memorial on Albion Hill in Epworth at 10:30am, to St. Andrew’s Church. A wreath will be laid during the service there, which starts at 10:45 am.
Winterton
Winterton’s begins with people asked to gather for 1.20pm on Remembrance Sunday in Market Street, by the Coop. Its parade moves off at 1.30pm via King Street, Queen Street and onto Church Side.
There will be a remembrance service at All Saints Church, followed by laying of wreaths at the War Memorial in the Churchyard.
Broughton
The town council is holding an event at 11am on Sunday, November 10, at the War Memorial on the High Street.
Burton-upon-Stather
A remembrance service at The Paddock, on Friday November 8, at 11am. The primary school will be in attendance and involved with the majority of the service.
Crowle & Ealand
The town mayor will lead remembrance services this year. Ealand’s will be held on Remembrance Sunday, from 10:45-11:15am. Crowle’s will be later the same day, from 12-12:30pm.
Eastoft
There will be a service of remembrance at St Bartholomew’s Church, Eastoft, starting at 10:55am on Sunday, November 10. There is also to be an act of remembrance at Eastoft’s War Memorial on November 11, at 10:55am.
Elsham
RAF Elsham Wolds Association’s remembrance service is on Sunday, November 3. Elsham village’s remembrance service is on Sunday, November 10.
Haxey
The parish council is holding an event at 11am on Remembrance Sunday at the War Memorial, Epworth Road.
Kirton-in-Lindsey
The Remembrance Service is led by Kirton in Lindsey Royal British Legion branch and takes place at the War Memorial site, at the junction of King Edward Street and North Cliff Road. It will take place from 10:40am on Remembrance Sunday.
It will includes the reading of the names of the roll of honour, the Last Post, two minutes silence and reveille. Members of the community, representatives of community groups, youth organisations and schools will lay wreaths and crosses at the memorial. Wreaths will also be laid at the new Halifax Bomber Memorial (Spa Hill) and at Manton Airfield (off Manton Road).
Road closures will be place from 10:45am at North Cliff Road (Barnard Meadows to B1206), Redbourne Mere (Jack Tighe to B1398), South Cliff Road (High Street to B1206) and King Edward Street (Sylvester Street to B1398). This is to allow for quiet reflection during the service, which takes place at this busy crossroads.
West Halton
An act of remembrance will be held within the grounds of St Etheldreda’s Church at 9.30am on Remembrance Sunday. The parish council’s clerk stated this is the first time it has held one, so it is “very excited and pleased that the local RBL [Royal British Legion] organisation has helped to put this on for us”.

North East Lincolnshire
Grimsby Minster, Grimsby – 9:30am
Grimsby Minster hosts the town’s Civic Service of Remembrance. The service will be followed with a parade from St James’ Church at 10:30am to the Cenotaph at Nun’s Corner, arriving at 10:50am. This will be concluded with a two-minute silence to remember those lost in the two world wars and later conflicts
Road closures will be in place from around 10am to enable the parade on Bethlehem Street, Church Lane, Deansgate, and Bargate. Neighbouring streets may be affected for a short time during the parade, but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.
Remembrance Day Service and Parade, Cleethorpes – 9:45am
A Remembrance Sunday service takes place at St Peter’s Church. A memorial will follow at the Cenotaph (St Peter’s Cross of Sacrifice) outside the church, concluding with a two-minute silence.
The service will be followed by a parade from St Peter’s Church at 11:35am, walking along St Peter’s Avenue, Short Street, Market Street and Alexandra Road before arriving at the Memorial Gate at 12pm. These roads will be closed from around 10am for the duration of the parade. Adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.
Remembrance Sunday Service, War Memorial, Pelham Road, Immingham – 10:30am
Immingham Town Council Mayor Karen Swinburn will lead the memorial to honour those who lost their lives in the world wars and subsequent conflicts. A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am before a parade to the Civic Centre. Road closures will be in place on Pelham Road and Humberville Road from around 10am to facilitate the service.
Great Coates
There will be a ceremony from 10:45am on Remembrance Sunday at the village War Memorial. It is in conjunction with St Nicolas Church.
Healing – 10:30am
Healing Royal British Legion will form a parade at 10:30am, walking from the Legion car park to the War Memorial at the junction of Low Road/The Avenue for a remembrance service. Members will then parade back to the Royal British Legion Club for public refreshments and a buffet.
Road closures will be in place from around 10am on The Avenue and Low Road to facilitate the parade and service. Neighbouring streets may be affected during this time.
Laceby – 10:30am
A memorial parade will begin at 10:30am from the Royal British Legion in Austin Garth to the cemetery, followed by a service. The parade will return along the same route. Road closures will be in place between 10:30am and 12:30pm on Austin Garth, New Chapel Lane, High Street and Cemetery Road. Adjoining streets may be affected for a short time.
New Waltham Remembrance at the War Memorial – 10:45am
A memorial will be held at the Royal British Legion, Barnoldby Road, where a two minute silence will be observed. Road closures will be in place from around 10am to facilitate the service and traffic on Peaks Lane will be stopped while the silence is being observed from 10:55am-11:05am. Adjoining streets may be closed while the parade passes but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.
Stallingborough – 10:30am
A service will be held at the war memorial with attendees invited back to the Village Hall for light refreshments following the service. Station Road will be closed from around 10am and reopened when it is safe to do so.
Waltham Remembrance Day Parade – 10:45am
A memorial parade begins at Waltham Royal British Legion at 10.45am, followed by a service at the War Memorial on Cheapside at 11am. The parade then continues to All Saints Church.
Road closures will be in place in Barnoldby Road, Brigsley Road, Cheapside and Kirkgate to facilitate the parade and service from around 10am. Adjacent streets could be affected for limited time.
