Restaurant chain Loungers opens eight new sites

Restaurant and bar chain Loungers has opened eight new UK sites in a move it says has created hundreds of jobs. The Bristol-founded company, which operates the Lounge, Cosy Club and Brightside brands, now has 257 outlets around the country.

The group said it had opened a new site every 10 days so far this year and that with each new Lounge venue nearly £1m was being invested into the local high street. It also said an average of 30 new jobs were created on each site opening.

In the past three months alone, the group has opened Lounges in Bromsgrove (Verraco Lounge); Chepstow (Pontio Lounge); Macclesfield (Panadero Lounge); Westwood Cross (Riparo Lounge); Bracknell (Pineto Lounge); Ilkley (Vitello Lounge); Sidcup (Sarto Lounge); and Yeovil (Barolo Lounge).

The sites range from new developments to revamped former banks, retail outlets and restaurants on the high street and in shopping centres.

Chair and co-founder Alex Reilley, who was recently named business leader of the year at the Publican Awards 2024, said: “Loungers continues to go from strength to strength with a fantastic pipeline ahead. We still firmly believe that there is scope for over 600 Lounges, and are more excited than ever about the future of this business.”

The news comes just days after Loungers announced three new senior-level appointments, including promoting current managing director Justin Carter to the role of group managing director.

The company was also recently named best pub and bar company at the MCA Hospitality Awards 2024, with the Lounge concept also winning an award for the best street food inspiration at the MIDAS Awards.
