A popular Cleethorpes bar and restaurant has suddenly closed its doors with immediate effect.
Grimsby business Beast Burger opened Beast Bar in Cleethorpes High Street in June this year, but has now taken the decision to shut it along with its location in Hull’s Trinity Market. The Freeman Street branch in Grimsby will remain open.
The closure comes as a shock for many, with the owners stating operational issues as the cause. Having originally taken over from Park, Beast Bar was a popular choice for many people in the resort, serving a range of its famous burgers.

However, co-owner Dan Hall says they left with no choice but to close both venues. He said: “We had Cleethorpes and Hull going and they were doing pretty well, but then one of our business partners stepped down so we had no choice but to close both venues. They left with immediate effect and it meant we no longer had the man power to keep the other places open.
“We’ve decided to just focus on what’s working now and will remain in Freeman Street market for the foreseeable future. What has happened is simply a result of the circumstances we were faced with.”
For husband and wife duo Dan and Nickee, it hasn’t been easy deciding to shut both the bar and Hull market stall. “It was a hard decision and a really disappointing one to have to make”, Dan said. “The bar was doing well, but as soon as everything happened we were left with no choice, but we’re glad we gave it a go.
“Freeman Street is our bread and butter though and as long as we’re giving that everything and it keeps going we will be happy. Thankfully, we’re still really busy here and we’re happy to be focusing solely on here now.
“We just weren’t able to keep the other businesses running without a suitable amount of management to oversee everything.”
Despite the closures, nothing is going to change for their Freeman Street market venue. Dan said: “It’s business as usual for us on the market. People are still coming through the doors and are still enjoying themselves which is great for us and them.”
Customers of the bar in Cleethorpes were disappointed at the news of its closure and feared other places may follow for other reasons. Gino Pavone said: “Sorry to see this, but Cleethorpes is like a ghost town, even at weekends. I don’t think it will be the last to close.”
Liam Tomenson said: “If a business is quiet having just opened up, especially with the cost of energy, prices for stuff and staff wages, despite throwing everything they can at it and still not even close to breaking even then it’s not financially viable to keep it operating. Sad times now to be honest, but it’s the way the world is at the minute.”
