A North Lincolnshire businessman is appearing on a Channel 4 show in the hope of taking his CBD edibles to the next level.
Neil Mumby, from Scunthorpe, has beaten hundreds of hopefuls to appear in the second series of Aldi’s Next Big Thing. Appearing on the fourth episode of the series which will air next Tuesday at 8pm, Neil is aiming to win a spot on Aldi’s shelves with his company CBD Guru.
He first began making gummies with Cannabidiol (CBD) to try and help a friend with the painful disease ulcerative colitis. CBD is an active ingredient in cannabis that is derived from the hemp plant but does not cause a high and is not addictive.

When his friend struggled to find an effective yet affordable CBD product on the market, Neil was inspired to have a go at doing it himself. He makes cannabis-infused, fruit-flavoured gummies aimed at a “normal person on a working weekly wage”.
Neil said: “I grew up in Scunthorpe on a council estate called Westcliff. I used to take crisps to school and sell them at snack time, so I‘ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit within me.”
Three years after conception, Neil’s brand is as strong as ever. Manufacturing has moved to a spacious new facility in North Lincolnshire, and the team continues to expand and welcomed new recruits including a pharmacist, sales executive, graphic designer, and marketing expert.
Neil added: “I’ve seen how many people the product has helped over the years. Hearing the stories makes all that sacrifice worthwhile. To be able to walk into a store and see my products on shelves would be amazing.”
Presenter Anita Rani said: “For these small food and drink businesses, winning a contract with Aldi is a potentially life-changing opportunity. Seeing products go from a prototype to supermarket shelves, in just a few months and finding out the stories behind them, has been a really special experience.
“I’m excited to see viewers’ reactions – I’m sure everyone will love the winning products just as much as we do.”
Aldi’s Next Big Thing is available to watch on Channel 4 every Tuesday at 8pm for six weeks from 2nd April. Neil’s episode will be aired on Tuesday, April 23.
