Scunthorpe’s shut Wilko to reopen as Poundland before month’s end

Scunthorpe’s former Wilko store will reopen as Poundland before the month’s end.

Wilkinsons stores closed en masse earlier this month, with its store at Unit 2, Broadway, Ashby, closing on September 19. But the Scunthorpe store is one of ten Poundland is taking over and has been rapidly made ready for as early a reopening as possible.

The new Poundland will open on Saturday, September 30. A range of Poundland favourites will be available alongside any existing clearance items from its time as a Wilko.

Poundland retail director Darren Kay said: “We’re pleased to be able to re-open so quickly in Scunthorpe – not least because our ambition is to provide job opportunities for former Wilko colleagues. Of course, we’re not yet in a position to offer our fullest ranges in the store, but we know customers will appreciate a store that’s open, trading and employing colleagues to one that’s
got its shutters closed.

“We’d encourage customers old and new to come and say hello to their new Poundland team from this coming Saturday.” Poundland plans a full makeover of the Scunthorpe store in 2024 so it can become a fully operational Poundland.

Staff are already in filling the store with merchandise. Poundland secured agreement with administrator PwC to take an option on a number of Wilko store leases.
