South Yorkshire accountancy firm expands into Doncaster and Chapeltown after acquisition

Independent accountancy practice Brearley & Co has acquired two offices from FL Accounting in a move that will see it move into new areas.

The firm, which has traded for nearly 40 years and runs offices in Swinton, Mexborough, Dinnington and Barnsley, has taken over locations in Doncaster and Chapeltown. All FL staff will transfer to Brearley & Co and provide the same services.

Having been founded in 1984 by Giles Brearley, the firm has grown and now specialises in services including tax, self assessment tax returns, financial advice, payroll, debt recovery, annual accounts, VAT services and auto-enrolment. Announcing the deal, Brearley said it was set to bring a “wealth of opportunities” for clients and employees, including the potential for recruitment as it grows.

Mark Smallman, managing director of Brearley & Co said: “We are excited to announce the move into two new catchment areas of Doncaster and Chapeltown. We welcome FL Accounting’s team into our growing organisation, and look forward to working with their clients.”

Mark Jenkinson, founder of F L Accounting Limited said: “We searched for over three years to find an accountancy practice that could take on our clients and team and Brearley & Co Accountants was my ideal choice. They have the structure, skill set and culture. We look forward to working with them and assisting their expansion.”

Last year Brearley & Co announced a raft of new shareholders, including Steven Millerchip, Ben Wingate and Andrew Cowe. The move last summer also saw Lee Rendle increase his ownership stake in the group.

The accountancy firm also pointed to its support for local charities over the past 40 years, including recent efforts for Rotherham Hospice and Bluebell Wood, as well as Dinnington Town FC.
