Manchester United and footballing legend Ryan Giggs is set to come to North East Lincolnshire for a special event.
The Welsh midfielder will be making an appearance courtesy of the Nor-Lait Sporting Events team who have brought the likes of Jeff Stelling and others to our town. Speaking about his time at one of England’s biggest clubs, as well as other highlights of his illustrious career, he will be appearing at the Pearl Holiday Park, in Cleethorpes, on Saturday, November 25.
Over the past ten years, Nor-Lait founder Simon North has built the brand up from nothing and runs a sports memorabilia shop alongside bringing household names to the area. For him, Ryan Giggs is arguably the biggest name he’s brought to the Grimsby area.

He said: “We do a lot of work with someone who has a lot to do with Manchester United and he often gives us the chance to speak with the players about coming to Grimsby. He often has people who are willing to come and do talks and pushes them our way and when he said Ryan Giggs was interested we couldn’t say no.”
He added: “We are delighted to get him to come over and he will also be visiting Hull with us as part of the visit. He’s one of the greatest football players in history, it’s great.”
When Simon was first told about the possibility of Ryan Giggs coming to Grimsby, he couldn’t believe his ears. “I was gobsmacked when we were given the chance,” he said. “I’ve worked with big names like Tyson Fury before, but as a football fan this blew me away.
“I’m a Grimsby Town and Liverpool fan myself, but to have one of the all-time greats is amazing. Granted, he’s had problems on and off the pitch, but it’s good to see him putting himself out there and to have another big name person in the area.”
As great as it is, Simon doesn’t hide the fact that it isn’t the cheapest thing to get big name stars to the area. “It comes at great financial risk getting these people here, but it’s nice that people give us these chances,” he said. “Just last week I was with Steven Gerrard’s manager and it’s amazing to have these opportunities.”
Simon added: “People know who we are and what we do and we’ve built up these relationships to be able to do what we do. Things are going that well that we are now being asked to run events in other parts of the country so we must be doing something right.”
After ten years trying to make a success of the business, Simon is proud of what he and the team have achieved. “It’s been hard to keep pushing and to get to this point, but we’re really proud of where we are now,” he said. “Who would have ever thought that we could get Tyson Fury or Ryan Giggs to Grimsby.
“We’re putting this town on the map. People never thought these people would come here, but I love a challenge. On top of that, this is my home town and I want people to come here. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, but I’m also proud of what the future holds.”
