A children’s design retailer specialising in toys, decor and clothing has secured five-figure investment it says will spur growth.
Soren’s House, which is based in Huddersfield, has secured £80,000 from Finance Yorkshire’s business loans fund which will be used to grow its team – including the additions of a customer service manager and digital marketing manager – and ramp up marketing. The business sells Scandinavian style wooden toys, clothing and furniture for children aged 0-12 and was launched by Sally Jackson in 2016.
It takes its name from Soren Lorenson, a character in the children’s book and television series Charlie and Lola, which was a favourite of Ms Jackson’s daughter, Seren. The business was paused when Sally’s son Seth was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma when he was six. He is now well and aged 12.

Ms Jackson’s business partner, Max Jones said: “Seth was treated for the best part of a year during which we had to put the business on hold. The experience of Seth being ill and his treatment gave us a different perspective and that’s why we are focused on natural materials and sustainability, we want parents to buy once and buy well and to be able to trust the products that they buy from us.”
Mr Jones said Soren’s House hopes to become a go-to retailer for environmentally conscious parents. The company now has its eyes on an expanded product range and developing its own brand products.
Finance Yorkshire chief executive Alex McWhirter added: “We are pleased to support Soren’s House and applaud the entrepreneurial spirit of Sally and Max who are embarking on an ambitious development trajectory for their business with an emphasis on the growing interest in sustainable living.”
