Teenager arrested after reports of man seen ‘running away carrying gun’ in Scunthorpe

A teenager has been arrested following reports that a person was seen with a weapon in Scunthorpe.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 2. A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We received a call at around 9am from a member of the public with reports of concern after they are believed to have seen a man running away while allegedly carrying what they thought to be a gun in the Normanby Road area.

“Officers were deployed to the area and following a thorough area search, a teenager was located and arrested nearby in connection with the incident. A suspected BB gun was also located and seized by officers.”

Chief Inspector Simon Duffield said: “I know reports of this nature can, understandably, be concerning for those in the local area and I want to offer my reassurance that we always treat this type of call as a priority. Following enquiries, it was established the area was safe with no threat or risk to the public.

“A 17-year-old boy has since been released on police bail and our investigations into the matter are continuing. I would encourage anyone with any information, particularly CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time, who has not already spoken to us to please call our non-emergency 101 line quoting log 88 of 2 July.”
