The £4.35 Full English breakfast in Grimsby that’s a saviour to struggling families during the cost of living crisis

In the midst of a cost of living crisis which has seen the price of literally everything skyrocket to unbelievable amounts, finding a bargain in some way, shape or form is always a welcome treat.

Whether it’s from a café, restaurant or takeaway shop, the cost of a meal is just one of many day-to-day expenses to have risen significantly within the last couple of years.

So when I discovered that good old Cooplands Bakery is offering an eight-item Full English Breakfast for just £4.35, I jumped at the chance to give it a try.

Ordering the bargain brekkie on my JustEat app, I liked the fact that you can choose however many of each item you like, as long as it all adds up to eight items. Most of the time when I order a Full English, I’m that annoying customer who asks to substitute items (mainly the tomatoes), so I was glad I didn’t have to do that here.

I went for two pieces of bacon, one sausage, one portion of beans, one portion of mushrooms, one egg omelette and two hash browns.

It came served in a cardboard box and looked a lot more appetizing when transferred to a plate!

The food came pretty quickly, but the receipt stated that there were no hash browns left, so they’d included an extra bacon and sausage to make up for it. To be honest, the hash browns would’ve probably been my favourite part of the whole breakfast, so I was a bit disappointed – but for £4.35, I can’t really complain too much.

Opening up the rectangular cardboard box the breakfast came in, I wasn’t overly impressed with the presentation – but again, I wouldn’t expect anything spectacular given it cost less than a fiver.

I transferred it all onto a plate and toasted a couple of slices of bread, and voilá. The beans and mushrooms were really tasty, but I found the egg omelette quite rubbery, the sausages a touch underdone and the bacon too tough… although it didn’t stop me from polishing off the whole thing.

My verdict

It wasn’t the best breakfast I’ve ever had, but it wasn’t the worst either. The sausages were just a bit too undercooked and the bacon too tough for my liking, and I think had the hash browns been included, I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more.

Either way, I think I’ll definitely order the breakfast from Cooplands Bakery again. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it might just be the cheapest Full English of this size in the area. It costs £4.45 in Wetherspoons for a Small Breakfast – but that only consists of five items.

So for eight items priced at even less than that, this might just be a true saviour for struggling families and people looking to save a few pennies while having a well-earned treat.
