The release date for a new Netflix crime drama that was filmed in Grimsby and Hull has been announced alongside a new trailer.
Bodies follows four detectives from four different periods in history trying to solve the same crime. Each one finds a mysterious body dumped in the middle of the street as they strive to find out the truth. The star studded cast includes the likes of Stephen Graham, who is a close friend of Grimsby‘s very own Thomas Turgoose.
The trailer gives a glimpse into some of the recognisable places that were used in filming including the likes of Grimsby Docks and parts of Hull’s Old Town. In a post on Netflix’s social media, the trailer took viewers on a tour through the four periods of time that will be explored in the series.
The detectives all find the same body in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053. From the short glimpse, it looks as though the local town and city will be used to portray parts of the 1890 and 2023 period. As the video jumps between the timeline, elements of Grimsby’s Kasbah can be spotted as well as parts of Hull’s High Street.
Using mainly visuals to show off what’s to come, actor Stephen Graham, who has starred in This Is England and Line Of Duty, did offer some insight into what fans can expect. In the trailer he says: “You’re not the first detective to discover this body.”
He added: “I’m going to tell you everything, it’s going to blow your mind.”
Filming originally took place in May and June 2022 with some of the show also being shot in Leeds and Rotherham. The series is based on a 2015 graphic novel of the same name by Si Spencer, following the detectives as they try to solve the murder set in Whitechapel, London.
It’s anticipated the show will comprise of eight one-hour long episodes; directed by Marco Kreutzpaintner and Haolu Wang (Doctor Who), while the scripts were written by Paul Tomalin (Torchwood) and Danusia Samal (Gangs of London). Grimsby has also been used in the past for other famous films such as Atonement starring Keira Knightley back in 2008 while Hull was the location for an upcoming Apple TV film, Blitz.
Bodies is set to premiere on Thursday, October 19, with details of the full cast still a mystery. For now, let’s get ready to spot some local landmarks in what is sure to be an exciting crime thriller.
